Re: A new V-synth keyboard at NAMM!!!!!!!!
You have a point. Well...
Who knows?
As far as PCs being less portable than workstations... that could easily be fixed by building a computer INTO A KEYBOARD!!! (Sorry -- not yelling -- just being enthusiastic...)
I had this idea, but decided that pursuing it would take too much of my time away from working on songs, which I would prefer immensely to working on R&D. But this is my idea, and I'm going to share it with you now. I don't imagine that people will jump on it, but hey -- you never know...
I had this idea because I was typing on my new Dell laptop last summer. I realized how quiet and how light-weight it is, compared, say, with my hulking Spectral PC. Even though the Spectral can eat the Dell for breakfast, I figured that it was possible to build a computer into what I had at the time -- a Fatar SL161 Pro 61 key controller keyboard.
I didn't do it, mostly because the guy I knew who had access to computer parts was too busy to help me, and I didn't really feel like even trying to learn about the insides of my laptop. I have destroyed perfectly-good gear by opening it up and screwing around with the innards. But I still think that something like this could work.
Don't get me wrong --- I'm not suggesting that FATAR of all companies get into this. That would be a disaster. But I'm saying that the concept is sound. You could build a light-weight keyboard shell that would house the computer, and could have all of the connectivity on the back panel. You could even include some PCIe slots or whatever kind of interfacing will, doubtless, be available within the next five years. I wouldn't be surprised if someone (like me, for instance) came up with the old cartridge concept, albeit applied to a more-relevant to today's computers sort of thing.
To recap: I would love to see a light-weight, portable keyboard with a Microsoft OS, a monitor, keyboard, and mouse output, along with a S/PDIF out, Firewire in/out, USB, and some kind of cartridge system that would let you easily switch in and out any sort of interface product. You could have cartridges that pretty much DO what PCI cards do, but would be hot-swappable. You could have synths, samplers, audio interfaces, MIDI interfaces -- you name it!!!
If that doesn't sound completely dotty, I don't know WHAT does. I'm an idiot. But I may be the smartest idiot, or may be the stupidest genius, around.
YOU decide!!!

V-Synth GT . . .waiting for the next generation
wow !
the GT really seems to be that ultimate gear.
But for i am not a professional (owning the 2003-V-Synth)
i probably better had bought the XT-Rack instead.
But i never would give my 2003-V-Synth away cause i know in future it will be mentioned as a milestone like the D-50.
and ... : Roland always is good for further surprises.
So maybe i should wait for a extended Rack-Version of the V-Synth GT ?? -

_____________
@ FantAdam :
software Synths ?
i am more into 'haptic' using real knobs, faders than only visual pc-icons. My Technics KN7000 also has this 'features' for using the mixer on built-in or TV-screen. But i would prefer a real console for this.
I don't recognize the company ...
but few years ago there was a huge keyboard with VGA-screen and built in PC and Hard-drive. I think it wasnt sold too often

V-Synth GT -- they "didn't cut corners..." eh...?!
Hmm...
They cut NO corners. I'll leave the jury open on that one. We'll have to see whether Roland really LISTENED and gave us the no-holds-barred, huge-#-of-voices (polyphony-wise) and multitimbral with EFFECTS ON EVERY STINKING PART kind-of-beast that we were all, apparently, hoping for.
I have my doubts.
And this brings me one step closer to selling everything that I have and buying a Muse Research Receptor with a bunch of plug-ins.
Sorry!!! (I hate to do it... I really, really do... but you know that I still have a couple of Roland keyboards that I'll never sell -- including my FP2 and my AX7.)

Bye.

OK Boys!
Dual Core= Two V-Synths at the same time. Split and layer V-Synth sounds.
or....
V-Synth And Vocal Designer running at the same time. This is cool!
AP Synthesis is based on the performace of acoustic intruments. This emulates how Violins, Flutes, Sax, etc are played. This is just the start for AP, there is more to come!
One nice thing is that you will be able to use any waveform and have the AP tweak it out.
The V-Synth GT will not be available for for another few months but I can tell you that this synth has more of an "organic" feell to it so far.
I writing this on the floor of the NAMM show so sorry for being so quick!
I'll check back in when I can!
There will be a video on later today at roland us.com
talk to you guys soon!
oh yea... USB audio and USB 2.0 hosting too!

Re: A new V-synth keyboard at NAMM!!!!!!!!
Thanks Jim, I'll be at NAMM tomorrow and I'll be sure to check out the the new V-Synth GT. I promised Artemio a few photos of the new products and I was hoping that I could get a photo with you also (for Artemio and all the other forum members here) if you can spare a minute or so. See ya tomorrow, have a fun day with all the new toys and with all the booth visitors and friends.
