They must be bored over there.
:-)

You guys have to understand that I'm not allowed to talk about any new products until NAMM. I would love to give you guys the skinny on the new V... but, I like my job at Roland. I promise I will answer any questions you guys have when I get back from Anaheim.

We will have videos on Rolandsus.com for NAMM so be sure to check it out!.

This looks like its

Vsynth 1/XT with vocal designer and the D20/50 synthesis engine all up front in one package/interface without the need to switch.

so what where getting is all 3 apps from the XT version but running at the same time without the need to reboot each time.

I would guess on that basis AP stands for Analogue Pulse Synthesys like the D20/50 range
the difference being you can route that also through the COSM which the D range did not original have.

Same outputs
Now what we need to find out is What is the new trick this one has that the others do not?

Poly will be a problem i bet.

Now if they keep to there historical nature, we will probably find that what made the v synth XT great
those feature will some how be crippled so as not to kill the current range.

Excellent! I'm certainly looking forward to hearing more about this new V-Synth. I think I know where my tax refund will be going this year. :-)

I'm going to mostly agree with Quinnx regarding the speculation on the AP Synthesis. The "Upper" and "Lower" tone designations are reminiscent of the D-50's LA synthesis architecture.

Jim: I'm sure there'll be lots of questions. Thanks for offering to answer them once you return from NAMM.

Madness! pure madness! I just got a 201 recently but this new V looks too good to pass up!!! That's not to mention the new MV8800. If by some cruel twist of fate a new Fantom shows up, I'm gonna be in debt for a long time . One thing is certain: this is the best NAMM of this decade so far! I'm definitely looking forward to those flash demos next week..

USB Host functions?

Post by Arghblarg »

I see in one of the pics there's a cut off image of the USB port labels at the top of the board:

FUNCTION ------- (USB symbol) ------- ??

Looks like there might be two USB ports, which implies the '??' might be 'Host', meaning this board could have its own external HD or something.. hmm.

Agreeing with others here, looks like they've added the Vocal Designer and D50-style upper/lower tone ideas all into the main board. No wonder they stopped making the VC cards, all the better to make us lust after the new model :-) :-( :-)

This is Jupiter-8 photo but it has already been there on the Sound Shaper screen on V-Synth 2.0 and XT.

Hmm...

Well, now I'm confronted with a perplexing problem. That is to say that it isn't a PROBLEM, per se -- it is a fun problem. A challenge, if you will.

I feel challenged to think about whether I should get the V-Synth that I put on lay-a-way. I"m happy that I did that, actually, and didn't just go and order one from SameDay like I had been planning to. But anyway...

The only real clincher for me with the new board would be a few things:

1. If the new V-Synth has true multi-timbral capability (i.e., lets you use all of the effects on all three or four multi channels, et cetera, and doesn't dumb the polyphony down TOO much) and if the new one comes in at under $2,500, then it will be very attractive and competitive.

2. On the other hand, I could always ADD the new board to my set up, and enjoy having even more synthesis power, or

3. I could maybe wait to see if they also release a comparably-powerful rack version of this and add that, or

4. (What I will probably do) go ahead and buy the older synth, and look to see what other products Roland will release. They will probably be putting out some other cool stuff too (like MAYBE an SH-R or something cool like that). It wouldn't surprise me -- their VA stuff has been wildly popular over the years.

As always, a word of caution. I like to avoid getting too hung-up on once piece of kit. There are other synths out there. I'm going to be circumspect, but I don't think that I'm altering my original plan too much.

Sammy, so did you buy a "classic" V-Synth keyboard yet or what? If yes, well I believe the price for you was about 50% the price of what that new V-monster will cost initially.

V-Synth is THE piece of kit to get hung-up on!!! ;-)
