Step recording is useless!

Post by Mans »

I'm a new fantom owner and pleased with a lot of things but one thing just makes me sad.

Step recording is completely useless! Why can't you hear the pattern when you are in step record? Why can't you hear other tracks when you are in step record?

Why did Roland not design it like the arp/rhythm editor? I really like that editor AND you can hear what you are programming!

But as I understand it now there's no way of programming a drumloop, keep it going, and program a bassline on top of it on another track. And actually hear what you are doing!

Hi Mans

I don't know at what stage your're now with your Fantom but I can cleary say that you're completely wrong. Actually, by the way "step recording" is conceived, is natural not to hear what your're doing. If you're recording step-by-step is natural that the sequencers waits for your "steps" to move forward . Otherwise it would not make sence.
I believe that you're looking for "real time recording". With this method you can layer tracks listening to what you have previously recorded. Do a little search at the manual for Pattern Recording and you'll get what you want.

Could not afford the 8.
Listen to what I've done with the 7

Hi fixthemix,

I am aware of the fact that in realtime record mode it is possible to record several tracks and listen to the result while you're doing it.

However I don't understand why you can't do this in step record mode. You say this is not how step record is supposed to function, but this is something I could do on the RM1x which I owned many years ago!

Why wouldn't it be natural to hear what you're doing in step record mode? That makes no sense to me. You can the hear the rhythm/arp patterns while you edit them and that is essentially the same as step recording.
