Fantom x Vs Motif ES buying Decision?!
Re: Fantom x Vs Motif ES buying Decision?!
Hi cesar.
Did you use GM2 ? Because the sound on the X doesn´t sound too good. The piano looks like the So True.

Man... The Motif sounds so good it makes me thing on going and purchasing one right now.
But, it could be that the Motif had effects selected and the Fantom X didn't????? (I'll go to the music store and give the Motif a check or two)

Gracias Cesarsound
I listened to both, Motif comes out brighter/winner in this. Perhaps some mixing settings I am not sure.
Motif sounds, I find little brighter/sharp, while Roland little softer/cushion I may be wrong.
thanks for the song anyway.
One more thing is I find Motif Args/phrases is way head and better than little strings of notes as arps in Fantom again its all my imho. But the harder interface makes life little difficult for newbies like me.

Hi taichi,
In my opinion, Motif interface is not so difficult to use it is very intuitive. And It has the 4 sliders, 4 knobs, ribbon and modulation wheel pre-programmed with several parameters set. You just need to press a button to choose it. You can, for example, control the overdrive level on Hammond organ, Leslie speed, tremolo deep/speed in EP, arp parameters, ADSR, etc, etc, just using these controls. They are ready and to be used for each patch.
Best Regards,
Cesarsound.

Taichi
I don´t want to depreciate Cesar´s song, it´s just that its not the perfect example of how the Fantom X would sound because GM2 was used, whereas internal sounds sound way better than those in GM2.
Cesar: If it´s ok for you and you have time, can you reprogram the midi file to play internal sounds instead of GM2 ones ?. That´ll give Taichi a more wide idea of sound quality.

Re: Fantom x Vs Motif ES buying Decision?!
Dont do it Taichi. Get a controller like Casio Privia and go with the computer, Reason and Cubase.
Unless you *must* go on stage - then get a Motif if you have any sense.

Guys
Thanks will be going to Guitar center today.
I went there so many times actually played with both
Btw did you guys listen to my music that will give you some idea where I am headed.
As for reason, its more for dance, techno beat music right. ?
My music style is little newage, indian pop (if you guys had listened to those)
Well if you have heard of one of Indias best composer
A R Rehman listen to his music here http://www.arrahman.com/
His music is played on the opening title of recent spike lee's Inside Man movie
My music is more on that line

You can get the rack modules if you want sounds at home. Keyboard workstations are obsolete except for controlling computer via MIDI or onstage performance.

Taichi!
I'm one of A.R.R's diehard fans! i'm from chennai, india. Where are you from?
BTW, just so you know, A.R.Rahman has a Fantom S.
You can hear the Fantom S in all of his latest albums.
Take a look at his new studio. its not in his website or his fans website, but if you google around, the agency which did the studio for him has his studio pics with info in their client list.

If at first you dont succeed, then skydiving is definitively not for you.

Scroll down to A.R.R. You can also see mani sharma's studio.
Look at his studio pics and you can see a Fantom S tucked in there.
It also appeared in one of his interview photos.
Enjoy.

I fully disagree, mace. the Fantom X's sounds are way better than those that come out of the box with Feason, and sometimes when inspiration strikes me at night, the last thing on my mind is turning on my computer and navigating thru my DAW. The fact that the Fantom has so many excellent sounds out of the box and is so easy to navigate are worthy examples why a workstation type synth is still viable in the modern environment. If I were gigging I might pick up a Casio to knock around town with. But my X8 feels way more expressive in my hands. Besides, I wouldn't want to scuff up the Fantom

Re: Fantom x Vs Motif ES buying Decision?!
The quality of sounds of reason vs fantom is subjective. You can do a LOT more with the reason that with a fantom.
However, if you take into account what you CAN do with a fantom, then the sky's the limit.
Reason is the best software studio in a package i've seen till date. Try out both and decide for yourself.
(Personally, i'd take a fantom S. Thank you, thank you. *bows down* )
