OK. So I am not the only one in the field. It is positive if more people speak out about this problem. I shall try to contact Roland support, too.
Re: Popping noise when retriggering the samples
Hi,
Please can people give us an idea of what sample rate they are using on the XT, and what sample rate the sample is, and if they are using digital / optical inputs etc.
Do people have the same problem with direct 44.1>44.1 over analoge?

The problem described here is mainly regarding the VariOS. The users of XT reported that they generally do not encounter such problems. However, for certain samples they also heard defects, although they were less noticeable.
Maybe some of the interested XT people could contribute with more details. I could look for some technical details regarding the VariOS, if that is needed. But in general I used the module with the default settings. The samples were mostly taken from the Variphrase library that came included in the box.
Thanks for looking into this thread!

Cool, no problem, I'll have a look into it.

Re: Popping noise when retriggering the samples
I devoted some time to play more samples with the VariOS, including the DX7 wave files from the Fantomized download section. It seems that playing samples from the keyboard is always quite a noisy experience. It might even make a click just when the key is released. Maybe this is because of the lack of envelope controls?
Working with longer phrases, on the other hand, is not so problematic, but that is only because they are usually utilized in a different way and with different sample settings. Could it be that the designers of VariOS have only thought about those users creating their songs from loops, and forgot about those who actually ‘play’ their music?
Is there any hope that Roland would solve this BUG? Other than that, is there any way to solve this issue? Maybe some audio editing could help (for example, creating samples with smooth release in the end or other tricks like that)?

Sorry raimondsgr I have been moving house so I've only just made it back to check the forum today. I'll test out the scenario and see what I get...
by time Variant yeah I mean Time control.
Just a random thought do you have after touch on your midi keyboard?
P.S. thanks for putting in the time to post and talk about the VariOS I've only had it for a few months but after an initial teathing period I'm starting to get a lot out of it and find a new use for it each day.

Re: Popping noise when retriggering the samples
Hello, guys!
The keyboard I have been using with VariOS (Roland xp10) does not transmit aftertouch. Would that make a difference?
I shall create and post audio demos as soon as I have some spare time. I've been moving between houses, too

Re: Popping noise when retriggering the samples
I have no idea if aftertouch would make any difference, but it sounds as if LOS may have more of an idea on that front.
As soon as you get some demos up, feel free to let me know.
For an A/B between the XT and VariOS, maybe you could post the raw waveforms as well.
It'll be interesting to see if I can get the same thing happening here on the XT.

Re: Popping noise when retriggering the samples
Any progress on this?
Some sort of example would be good for those of us trying to test on VariOS machines.
