V synth V 3 :)

Post by matt »

Hi folks

just my pipedream - anyone care to add some features ?

V synth V 3 . . .

same as before - Pc card slot . . all future V cards loadable via usb so the v synth of the future is infinately updateable with no need for pcmcia cards.

More granular synthsis scanning stuff . . . and ability to edit in Reaktor travelizer like scanning loops and stuff . . .

Some unusal Lfo style /sequencer data generators that clock and allow you to say control cc's and data per sound via loopable sequencer like controllers which loop at different steps if you like .

patch randomisation using internal wavesets and patches or cross morphing of patches to create a third new patch.

Morphing of one patch to another (may push the cpu;))

MEMORY AND INTERNAL ROM !!!!!

Please lets have some decent sampling time . . . like 512mb of encoded samples allowed . . . . and no limit on individual sample time . . . . so we can process whole tracks in strange ways . . . The vp9000 had more ram ! why limit the ram when ist so cheap ????

step up the sequencer so it has some functions that modern hardware sequencers have like
force to scale , randomisation , built in exotic scales , multiple directions rather than just , backwards and forwards and back and forward . . .

more randomisation of paramenters for all features and intelligent force to scale style options . . . the ability to take an internal bank and shuffle the waves asigned to patches in a random fashion.

Above all how about some modern wavesets ! or some creative ones which dont use marimbas and electric pianos . . .its kind of weird but i get the feeling roland need a good sampling technician as there wavesets are the same as those in my jd800 or not far off . . . ! so many raw waveforms they could use that they dont . . . . they seem unable to get beyond a certain idea with the wavesets (korg are the same )

Something new !
No doubt you will see variphrase on the next series of fanthoms and no doubt it will lack features the v synth has - so you need both . . . ;)

Or - they may get a bit weird about the Korg Oasy and go for a monster . . . . V synth x fantom and more . . . .

cheers

random edit

Post by stefan »

I concur with many of these especially the RAM limit - cannot understand why they did that.
I liked the easy edit feature in v2 but I would like to see an ability to generate many patches by random changes in many chosen parameters - like I do in Midiquest with other hardware synths in my set up. Many patches generated this way are useless but just a few turn out to be gems - I do soundscape sort of stuff.

Add-ons will always be PCMCIA media

Post by LivePsy »

Its marketing: you have to buy the physical media to have the programming. Same as the audio tracks expansion for the Fantom X. Roland can continue to make more sales after the initial keyboard sale by making it only possible to install from the distribution media.

The difference is that the Fanfom X OS upgrade is stored in NV ram forever, but the Vcards need to be in the VSynth (and a power up) each time. This makes the vcards less attractive to me - although Artemio's demoes are mighty tempting.

Its smart marketing, but I don't know exactly why adding the TB filter in V1.5 is on one side of the line and a D-50 emulation is on the other...

1) Let us tweak patches on zones/parts 2-16 using the V-Synth controls!

2) Unify the concept of 'Zones' and 'Parts' (in the 'info' page), so we have a useable performance architecture (ala Access Virus series).

3) I will re-state point 1: LET US USE THE V-SYNTH CONTROLS ON MIDI CHANNELS 2-16.

I'm on a ranting roll today.. :-)

For me the most important all I would think fairly simple software changes:

1) A performance mode where you can load 16 parts at a time, rather than having to do it from an external device.

2) parts 2-16 affected by V-Synth controls

3) arp working on all parts.

4) proper midi bank numbers starting at 1

5) The ability to setup CC messages for any parameter in the V-Synth. Not just the 8 in the matrix

6) The ability to have groups of more than 2 param changes in the matrix, lets say 8.

Cheers

BobTheDog - your post suggests you know what bank numbers to send to select patches properly.. please spill the beans, I couldn't find it in my search of the manual. :-)

Thanks!

Hi,

Bank numbers start at 11136.

The person that came up with that one at roland should be smacked around the face with a wet fish!

My 2c:

1) Allow the CTRL button on the XT to launch the TTPAD from any window, including the RESAMPLE window (presently it's not possible to TT while resampling on the XT).

2) Programmable key shortcuts. I hate going through EXIT > MODE > SYSTEM > USB MIDI > INT every time I want to turn off MIDI CLOCK while my sequencer is stopped so I could test the sound. Or at least have a couple of customizeable menu items with this object in mind.

I agree, though, that the interface is on the whole excellent.

I'd like to see....

Glitchless looping when using variphrase samples. At them moment loop points glitch like crazy even if the loop is clean when variphrase is off.

More cosm filters! The only new one since the v-synth was released is the 303 filter. There could be way more interesting cosm resonators than the acoustic guitar/banjo ones.

Fix the distortion cosm. It needs input and output gain controls!
Fix the attack clicking on the compressor/limiter cosms.
Fix the odd glitches with the first few samples of a analog osc.

User settable interpolation time for all front panel controls to reduce glitching.

Better zone handling. It should be possible to make cosm filter settings/output tva etc common for all zones if desired.
At the moment, if you have a multisample with 16 zones and want to tweak the overall release time or a filter setting then you have to manually edit each zone, or copy the parameters 16 times.
I made some standard piano/rhodes sounds and it's really awkward to programme them.

Better layering options. I know layering is a bit weird of the v-synth due to control, polyphony and master fx problems, but is is still useful and should be quick and easy!

Tell me about it... the no 1 complaint I have is the glitching.. that should never have been allowed to happen...

i think it would be awesome if you could change the loop start and end points with the d-beams.

I second the request for loop start/end modulation via D-Beams (or matrix control in general)

be nice if you could change the loop start and end points in realtime and scan like the reaktor ens can do.Also nice if you could mod them with anything including lfos and velocity.Something as simple as velocity to sample start point would be nice also ! like the 30 year old ensoniqs have ! :)

ps . . did i repeat myself

MORE RAM , put back in the Vp9000 outputs (way better sound) and give it back the same ram you put in the vp Roland - you cheapscate bastards !
