Intermittent noise with XT

Post by Dan Tyrant »

I'm wondering if anyone else has some issues with the XT producing intermittent bursts of white noise, either while booting up or during actual use. I get small bursts of white noise through the right channel- not loud bursts mind you but loud enough for me to notice, and that's unacceptable of course.

I got the noise when I was using the XT via USB audio, and now via TOSlink the same thing is happening. I'll try using the analog outs, but was wondering if anyone else has noticed this sort of behavior in their own XTs?

If noises are not loud but enought to notice, I am thinking of external interferences. What happens when you unplug the usb cable? I once had a device which suffered from awful interferences only when connected by USB to my laptop. If noise persists, try moving the XT to another room to see if it makes a difference (?).

Can't say that sounds familiar.
The only extraneous noise I have noticed is during VC2 card use where some of the patches result in un-gated digital noise. Turn the MFX off and the noise goes also. Others have noticed this so a minor design flaw.

Suggest turning off MFX anyway and see whether your noise is anything to do with MFX processor?

Just as sb1 reports, only with the VC-2 unsuppressed patches. Other than that, my XT is clean.
Cheers,
