If you upgrade to 2.0, keep in mind that you will loose compatibility with all version 1.x patches unless you get the special version 2.0 with version 1 waveforms/patches (on the Roland US web site).

Yes, I was too pretty disappointed that Roland didn't implement their pretty standard Matrix Control like on XV and Fantom series. V-Synth's Matrix Control doesn't let you use route envelopes and LFOs to modulate any additional parameters, this is pretty bad.

But on the other hand there are 5 LFOs and 13 envelopes per zone, and in most cases this somewhat compensates for the lack of extra routings.

Maybe something for OS 3.0? ;)
Seriously, what about suggesting this for Roland?

Having LFO's and envelopes as mod sources in the matrix screen would be nice (especially to modulate other LFOs), but just install the 2.0 upgrade and think of the step modulator as 4 extra LFO's that you can assign to pretty much anything. The term step is deceptive too, as you can use the "smooth" mode and then for instance draw a sine wave or a saw wave or some other wave that you can't do with the default LFO shapes.

The sound shaper was built to ease the sound design process for newbies. Basically they are trying to bring a new audience to the v-synth. They sell the feature as a tool to help you get the great sound designer sounds in one screen. But it is great for experienced sound designers in my opinion as well, if you need to get a sound idea out quick. Once you go through the process and save it, I believe it shows up as a normal v-synth patch and you can do further advanced editing there. I have really only messed around with it for a few minutes but I think it is a great additional feature, even having a bunch of sound design experience.

I wish alot of synths would provide a basic sound category creator with a few basic tweaks.

My only widge about this is the controls are not assigned for tweaking according to the label, but according to the rlative position in the display.

So reaching for the filter knob doesnt do what you would expect for eg - grrrr!
