Upgrading to version 2 question

Post by Pighood »

I now have 1.50 and a poopload of customized patches. When I upgrade to version 2, will the old patches be overwritten, or can you have the new patches append to the existing list?

Hi Pighood, If you update the OS you will loose any custom patches/waves you have created(see below). It is always a good idea to keep a backup of your Project ie all the patches and waves.

There is a section on data management in the FAQ which covers adding patches to existing projects.
http://v-tribe.info/documents/V-Synth-FAQ.html

edit
this is a quote from the 1.51 upgrade
"In the Ver.1.51 system program, due to the renewal of the
Preloaded Memory (additional oscillator Waveforms, Patch
Category function implemented), the Preloaded sound data

(V-SynthDiskImage.bin) must be updated at the same time.
Update procedures are the exactly the same as the system
program, however unlike updating only the system program,
Factory Reset will be automatically executed to the data
inside the Internal Memory.

Due to this fact, before you update, data inside the Internal
Memory must be saved to a PC Card, or copied onto a PC via USB
for back-up."

For peace of mind back it up, upgrade, then rebuild your project with your custom patches etc.

Regards and all that

Would this be a possible procedure?

1. save the current project (includes all of my custom patches) to the CF card

2. upgrade

3. cherry-pick the sounds loaded with the upgrade, whittling them down to only the essentials

4. append to them with the contents of the CF card?

I'm going to save my project, upgrade, then reload my project.

That's sort of what I was suggesting, but when you reload your project, can the project patches append to the new ones?

Pighood: I'd suggest you do the following when the 2.0 upgrade becomeas available:

1. Back up your patches project to CF card
2. Upgrade
3. Import the patches from CF card to internal project

Though I do not see any need to merge these projects. I'd keep my own patches in a separate project. So if you have your stuff in Internal.prj in flash memory, rename it to MyPatches.prj, back up to card, then update, and copy back to flash memory. You will have Internal.prj of the 2.0 update and your 1.5x patches in MyPatches.prj.
