need an OPINION within 24hours ! PLEASE!...

Post by frozendelay »

here the deal. I own a FANTOM XR module, and I love it but Im really want a good keyboard, so I can gig with it without having to take mi controller plus module. I also need a sequencer, right now I cant aford the X6 wich is what Id like, BUT, my friend offerder to buy my Fantom Xr for US $1000, and I saw a YAMAHA MOTIF 6, on EBAY for US $999

Think Its a good idea to change my fantom XR MODULE, for the yamaha MOTIF 6 KEYBOARD???, consideriong that I really what the sequencer and te ability to play live just with one keyboard (and a stand) . the motif comes with its own gig bag.

I havnt tried out the motif but I know it has to be pretty good... I play almost all stles of music.

The ebay bid may go out of your budget in the last few minutes of the auction.

Check if it's a Motif 6 or a Motif ES6, there's aquite a difference between them.

:o)

I picked up the MO6 recently. It's basically a stripped down ES6 - most of the same sounds, but no sampler, 64 note polyphony instead of 128, no expansion slots, and no individual outs. On the upside, it weighs a lot less , and comes with a digital output - I think you have to pay about $300 for digital board for the ES.

Trading a XR for a Motif 6 is definitely a downgrade. Save a few bucks and get a MO6, if you don't find a X6 or ES6 used...

I'm amazed anyone would pay $1,000 for an XR. Hope your friend isn't reading this. I wouldn't expect to get over $600 for mine. Maybe less. I'm amused at these people who are constantly mulling over trading Fantoms for Motifs and Motifs for Fantoms. Anyone who knows, knows that they are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT INSTRUMENTS. It's kind of like saying, "Do you think I should trade my guitar for a bass?"

BTW be aware there is the "Motif" and the "Motif ES". The hot keyboard that everyone uses on television, etc., is the Motif ES, NOT the Motif.

If your just a newb I would stay with roland. The interface is easier to use (atleast for me) when I was starting out and sound is as solid as any thing depending on your rig. A regular fantom is still good and you can get it cheaper thatn $999. Hope I'm not too late.

Over the summer I sold my XR on ebay for $1200 and bought the X8. I loved the sounds on the XR and needed a new keyboard. I love the X8, although there are a few things about it that really annoy me (like patches sounding different in Patch Mode and Performance Mode [don't tell me about the tutorial posted here because the tutorial is wrong] and no seemingly long term commitment from Roland).

So, trade the XR for the X8. The feel of the keyboard is great and the sounds are great as well. Also using it as a midi master keyboard is very easy. There are like 3 different ways to use it in that mode, depending on your work habbits. And its flexibility is aided by the really cool color screen.
