Mastering, Compression & Recording

Post by knopfler »

Hi guys ...

Ok the Fantom has a stereo compressor that is applied to the final output of the Fantom - I understand that.

But what is the "correct" way to do things when recording into Cubase (or any other package)? Should I zero all the Hi, Mid Lo settings on the Fantom and do the compression on individual tracks from within Cubase, followed by Mastering the final mix in Cubase... can't quite get my head round this one?

If you can master your work in Cubase or anyother DAW, you should turn of the mastering section in Fantom. It's not a good idea to over process a mix.

Apply EQ and Compression to individual tracks "if they really need it", and then use EQ and Compression on the final mix if necessary.

Don,

Press the 'EFFECT' button. There you will see, in the lower right corner, F7 and F8, 'Mastering' and 'Effect Sw' respectively.

Reference page 217 in the manual. It tells you how to go about switching the FX and Mastering on/off.
