New Fantom 2006 ????
Re: New Fantom 2006 ????
About the new rack synth, you mean like the Fantom XR?
So,Roland would show up a synth module before a keyboard, and that,at the Musik Mess, rather at the Namm!!!!!!

>>intel could release a new proccecor evey mounth
Actually, Intel kills themselves releasing a new processor every year (it's actually historically been more like an 18 month cycle, i.e. for an actual new architecture, not just a higher speed). Let me assure you that releasing 1 per month is not remotely possible, even for behemoth Intel.
I assume Roland has similar hurdles... from concept to design to validation to product, and LOT less funds and comparatively small user-base to sell to. If they do anything beyond just revving the same old gear, it takes them quite some time to release it. And if they try to release it quickly, rather than spending lots of validation time, then they get all sorts of complaints from the users about how horrible this bug or that one is...
I'll sit on my FS88 and wait for the next new thing, maybe even the one after that. Frankly, unless they find a new feature I just can't live without, I'll probably just buy an expansion card or rack synth from time to time... FS88 has everything I need.

let eassure u bro thats fisicly intel CAN but wont releasse new and faster proccesor every mounth ...
i know what im talkin about..
they dont do it only becouse none of the software company works as fast as they are,,,and they will loose alot money in such conditions.otherwise they couls release every mounth or 2.

and if u have a lot of money now u can order custom made procesors means not even close to those u have in pc's.
my firend works in a bank as a computer secutery ,and the bank orderd custom prosecor from intel that have som much shit in it,,,cant tell u what couse i my self dont know and from what he tald me i understood that it workin better than duals and have alot of power ....but it cost for the bank some like 20000$ us dollars....
so wat i mean that intell for this day have tecnology beyond those u see on shelf's and for home consumers....
"those who have the money always can get the lates before it out"

This all thing about new Rolands, new Korgs, new Yamahas, new whatever, makes me think on all the time I used my XP50 as my main keyboard.
If I'm not mistaken, the XP50 was released around 1995. I bought mine just when the XP80 was coming out in 1996. Considering I got my Fantom last year, I used my XP50 for a full 8 years. In fact, I'm still using it although not as main keyboard. Now my X is just turning 1 year and .... goshhhh... there's still so much it can deliver that I can't even think on changing, unless ... maybe for an X8.
What I'm trying to say is that I would not consider buying a new "Fantom" unless (in priority):
1 - It delivers a real BIG improvement in sound (the most important thing for me)
2 - It delivers a real BIG improvement in MFX
3 - It delivers a real BIG improvement in the data management, file system and storage capacity
4 - I had a real BIG improvement on the money available.
5 - I had a real BIG need for it.
o - ...just could not afford the 8

Hehehehe,
I normally try not to clutter up threads with a "me too" post but I can't help but agree 110% with Fixthemix.

Me neither, but me too. And at about the same percentage as Igglethorpe

Re: New Fantom 2006 ????
I want:
-At least one if not two XLR inputs w/phantom pwr like the v-synth xt
-2 XLR/1/4" combo out jacks so that this bby can be used live w/o having to use a direct box
-Color touch screen like the G70 and v-synth xt
-USB midi and audio like the v-synth xt (this baby should act as a sound card like the XT)
-VGA out like Rolands VS Recorders and the new Tyros 2
-Better implemented audio recording capabilities so that it will compete with things like the Fusion, and yes, the Oasys
-Draw Bars and faders rather than round knobs like on the G70 (this is great for organ emulation and it's better for manipulating many synth paramaters at once)
-Even bigger screen (some feel that this would increase the price, but small screens tend to be more expensive than small screens...so why not go 20-30% wider??? there's plenty of realestate on that board for it)
-I also would like to see them get rid of the current rack setup and make the next fantom rack more in the style of the current v-synth xt setup w/the cool tilting action, large color screen, sound card capable, etc.
-Complete integration between the new fantom and Cakewalks Sonar (Lets see something happen with this marriage of these 2 great companies...there have a been a few things, but I think we're all still waiting for the BIG one)
-A realy nice but high tech cup holder off to the side
***Always improving the sounds should go without saying...this should always be the priority of every new synth!!!!

New Fantom
I am a XV-5080 owner who's been lurking here many months; this is my first post. I've passed on the Fantom so far (although I am tempted).
This is an interesting thread. It contains some suggestions that would fit right into my home studio if they ever come to pass.
I use Sonar, so naturally I hope the Roland/Cakewalk alliance eventually creates some magnificent hybrid products. I would like to see a Fantom that completely blurs the line between hardware and software in a studio. I'd like to see a computer/new Fantom connection that permits eight to sixteen simultaneous Fantom instruments to show up as virtual instruments inside Sonar, each (or most) with separate Fantom FX available. I would like the number of SRX slots and sample memory to expand significantly. I'd also like to see a SRX card dedicated to steel string acoustic guitar and a separate one for electric guitar recorded clean and direct (no amp or effects in the samples).
It's fun to dream. Here on the forum we get to dream out loud; maybe, if we dream loud enough (in other words, if enough of our stated dreams are in agreement on some future improvement), a few of our dreams might someday become real products.

bigger screen
how about leaving the small sreen on the unit, but make it possible to plug in my 21" flat screen computer monitor when i need it
Re: New Fantom 2006 ????
yes please..som'thing that will make cry the Korg users
to have spent more than 8000 $ for the Oasys...
and the worst is that on Korgforums you can't say
it costs too much...
maybe the next fantom will be named Fantom Z..
with a colour touch screen( or a vga out such in the VS2000CD) ,internal hard drive, better hd rec,8 ins ( 6 jack +2 xlr)
vst management,2 usb ports (a and b)
8 srx slots, format compatibility with Kontakt and Gigastudio,
ddr memory...and a rack version of this
enough?
i've loved fantom and tritons then i've found my Oasys..i'm dead...i haven't money for the water...

My reply: I have been asking for that ever since they started doing that with their VS recorders and the MV8000. You might have noticed that the new Tyros has included this as a new feature...so who knows...competition is a good thing (and yes I do understand that the Tyros 2 is mainly adding it because it's an arranger, and the screen is a good idea for displaying lyrics, and the like...BUT Roland has been trying to sell us on the idea that the Fantom is a full studio in a box, which has some truth to it, but many of Rolands other studios, mainly the VS and MV, have a killer vga and mouse option...I would love it, and have been hoping for it for a few years now).
Take a look at my list above...I pretty much include that option every time this topic comes up.
