Best monitor headphones for under $150?

Hello all!

I plan to buy new headphones to replace my AKG K66 which do have good and clear sound but do not allow to make good mixes. I need headphones that would give me the most exact overall picture and yet capture all the details - like good loudspeaker monitors.

As I am limited on cash (VERY limited actually!), and I need the phones to be the best possible bang for the buck.

I had a look at Roland's RH-200, and read some reviews saying they really provide the same quality as more expensive models, but there are also similar offerings from Audio-Technica and possibly other brands.

Any suggestions will be very appreciated!

I myselfe uses Sennheizer HD 250 II. They are great (my opinion)

Before I bought this paire I tortured the staff at my lookal store. Trying out various AKG, Beyerdynamics and what not...

Give them a try.

Well, K271 may be too expensive for me (over $200, or even $250), and K240 are not closed type (Roland d RH-200 are closed-type) and have a little less sensitivity than RH-200, though provide a wider spectrum...

i did mention somewhere here a set of OPEN AIR headphone im using that where less than 30 Euro (link included)

They are chrystal clear and very! loud! (if thats what you want)

I do not rely on them to cut the final mix
but as long as you dont kill your ears with Loud volumes from them
they come pretty close to the final cut on external monitors
but you will need to do the final EQ externaly.

I was also looking for headphone monitors so as not to rely on external ones.
but the cost does not justify.

I bought 3 pairs of these headphones i was so impressed
Reason:
if you like them and your only pair breaks, you probably wont find another pair anywhere.
(i know.. believe me. its happen to me once before)

How about Sony MDR-V600 ($100) or MDR-V700DJ ($150) ?

I've got MDR-V600 and am really impressed with the quality, but it's not gonna sound like a $400 headphone, for sure.

I used AKG, Sennheiser and Sony in studio's but I find it realy difficult to recommend you one. I personally prefer a neutral sound when mixing. My mabybe unaffordable tip: buy 2 pairs of headphones, this will enable you to hear the differences better and it usually improves your mix a lot.

I also had to buy a new set of headphones recently. My old Sony HDR??? were rotting. I also tryed several models, including the ones from my favorit brand- the Roland RH200 - wich I actually could get for an excelent price. Yes they are good. But then I tryed the Sennheiser HD280 and man... what a diference. So I decided to do a little more effort and bought them. I can only say that my mixes became better and clearer (and I also stoped hearing my kids shouting cause the headphones have excelent ambient noise reduction).
They were a bit "tight" at first but now are getting more confortable.
I got mine for 120Euro (EDIT : hey what happened to the Euro symbol) so I think they will fit in your bugget.

I just want to let everybody know that now I got the AKG K 271 studio - this is a simply fantastic pair of headphones! I haven't even heard such a flat frequency response, crisp dynamics and amazing details. It's like my huge looking glass for sounds now.
