Xa vs. X6
I am thinking about purchasing an Xa instead of an X6 because of its price. How do the sounds differ between the two instruments?

Xa vs. X6
xa is basically a fantom s.the xa to me has a slightly more upfront presence to it when auditioned side by side patch.even though the patches are identical, ther are some slight hardware things that are done differently on xa as far as how the sound is routed to the final output stage.that being said , with the x6 you dont loose a thing all the patches and waveforms from xa are there except for the user patches and they are offered on this site as a free download.if you can swing the extra dough you are better off with the x in the long run version 2.0 makes the x shine new patches, some of which would work fine on the xa,the audio track expansion which will let you drop samples of verying bpm's to your tracks and they will all will follow the sequencer clock effortlessly plus the bigger color display just makes the instrument a little easier to work with .you really cant loose with either ax.plus remember, when you are in a music store most of them have a thirty day return policy.rarely have i really been limited by any gear i have purchased .they are all of such high quality these days.remember you are only limited by your own creativity.if the xa is all you can afford , it's a great piece of gear.if their is a hit in you it is going to come out no matter what you play.be the man when someone hears your tracks they are like dam thats bumpin whats he using and make everyone play catch up to you and rush out to to get a fantom xa.good luck with your decision i own the s-88 and an x-6 but personally i really like the xa ,but you ultimatley must be the judge after all they are your hits to write .....peace.

The Xa is for Girls, or Men that program their own sounds (and the extra sound are just more patches you don't play) and don't need a big screen to make music.

Re: Xa vs. X6
Let me get my idea on this clear. the X6 is better then the Xa, more sounds, better construction (so i've hear), better expantion with srx, and different pads.
for me, i got the Xa because it fit more of what i needed. i don't use preset patches. i knew, going into this that i would sculpt my own sounds so extra sounds doesn't matter. the construction is a down side if it's true, but from using the Xa, it's built tough enough. the srx thing is the same for above, i just use compact flash as my srx. and i like the pads better on the Xa, i use them for samples and drums, so i don't need volocity.
now, it all worked out for me. i don't have a lot of extra cash, so it was more of a discount then a downgrade.
and finaly the screen thing. i don't look at mine, after 9 months of working on the thing, i know where every thing is, and working on a song, i just need points of reference, not a flashy screen. roland, as well as korg and yamaha spend a lot of time working on making these boards easy to work with (well, maybe not yamaha), but once you know how to work them, that ease is just fluff. it's just like fixing a car, when you know what a fuel pressure regulator is, it's easy to fix.
so in conclustion, the person looking at the gear needs to decide if it's the right thing for them. for most people here, the X6 is the right board. but thats no reason to think that the Xa is for girls.
oh,
just to boot, i like girls, so if having an Xa means that me and all the female Xa owners have something in common, hell yeh!
what does WTG mean? is it "way to go"?
