I am trying another Akai CD with Fantom Converter. Samples are copied to the card but all patches are INIT PATCH.

Not sure what went wrong there.

Tried some more conversions and same thing again. This time patch names are showing up under CARD but no sound. I went in Patch Edit mode and there are no MultiSamples created/Assigned for the samples that are copied in SMPL folder on the card.

The translation went through just fine and i see the samples wav file in SMPL folder as expected. I copied them to my desktop and played the wav files in MediaPlayer as well.

Seems like the Fantom Converter is copying samples as expected but is unable to create and assign multisamples to the patches.

I hope Garth reads this post and responds.

I have posted a bug report on ChickenSys site for it yesterday. Will share it here once I hear back from ChickenSys.

I tried it, and it worked here. My best guess is that you are not releasing your memory card properly. With XP, you need to go down to the system tray, release the memory card via the storage device app, then take the card out.

Otherwise, we'll have a new Fantom Convertor up this weekend, build 92 - I'd try that.

Garth,
I have tried releasing the Windows Xp memory card several times but it prompts a message like, "cannot perform operation" or something like that.

It can be the USB controller itself or USB functionality in WinXpSp2 but I am not sure yet.

Its hard for me to beleive that there is something wrong with the fantom converter because I have been able to convert 3 patches successfully before. I am assuming that there are other users that have no issues also because not very many posted on this thread.

I will install Windows 2000 Sp2 on a laptop today and attempt it from there. May be different hardware and OS platform will resolve the issue. I will post the results soon, in case someone runs into this issue in future.

Many thanks for your support and fast turn around.

The releasing of cards part of XP drives me crazy; that's why I use Win98 whenever possible when I do Fantom stuff.

When I worked at Roland and in meetings that was a big problem, constantly we'd write files, then move them over and find nothing, because we just popped it out and not released it. It took a while for us to get in the habit of releasing it.

Aha. Thats good info. I did not know that, except that some of my other apps have had USB remote drive access issues in the past with WinXp OS.

Would you suggest that I use Win98 Second Edition or Win2k Sp2 should be fine?

One more question for you:
How do you delete multisamples from Fantom Card. For example lets say I have mSmple1, mSmple2 . . . .mSmple9 on the card and i no longer need mSmple2. How do you delete it along with the samples that are assigned to it?

I'd do Win98 2ed - the idea is that it's a simple OS, quicker without modern encumberences. There's man ygood reasons not to use it as your main OS, but for certain things it's handy, like this one.

AFAIK there is no way to delete MS's. They are on the .svd file. Perhaps there is a way using the editors Roland puts out now. I can put it on the Fantom Convertor.
