sf2-2-fantom

Post by 8poundstar »

Sorry I am new to hardware workstations.. And I did a search on sf2 files in all sections... Is the only way to use a sf2 file is to convert to wave, then use that wave in the fantom?

I just received a few sample disks from Trusty (mvnation.com) and most of the files are loops or waves, but there is alot of sf2 files... I am guessing the original
sounds used to make these soundfonts are included, but was
wondering if fantom included sf2 support in anyway, I also did a search and just found converter info...

I purchased the full version of Chicken Systems Translator because I had a large collection of Soundfont files I wanted to convert. I could never complete a translation directly from Soundfont format to the native Fantom format (received error messages every time). In the end, I translated the Soundfont files to the Gigasampler format first, then from the Giga format to Fantom...worked like a charm. By the way, to do the initial Soundfont to Giga translation I used CDXtract 4, which worked perfectly, then used Chicken Systems Translator for the second stage. I actually prefer the CDXtract interface and it seems to be a much more stable program. They are supposed to be releasing a newer version soon with support for additional formats.

Well mentioned. I have used the CS's "Translator" for a period and I found "CDXtract" more convinient. I use Windows 2000 and, "CDXtract", unlike "Translator", doesn't require any aditional aspi drive to read akai CDs, wich I have a lot. As the CDX's price is very expensive for our money and I don't have an international credit card yet, I use it demo for now. But this program is really fantastic and deserves a support.
