Can anyone convert a song into a SVQ file for me?
Can anyone convert a song into a SVQ file for me?
Hello, I was wondering if I can get help here converting a song into a SVQ file for me. I will be singing a song on July 16th for a wedding and need an instrumental of it. We have the song already picked, but we don't have an instrumental track of it yet. The chuch that I will be singing it at has a Roland X7 and I was told I could import an SVQ file into it and it will play all the parts for me. I have attached a link to the song below. From what I can hear, there's only a few different parts so this may be easy for someone here to convert for me. If someone could email it to me at darica08@hotmail.com I would really appreciate it. Song link below...

Re: Can anyone convert a song into a SVQ file for me?
This is slightly difficult to explain properly, but unfortunately a file in WMA format cannot be directly converted to SVQ format.
The Fantom can basically play two different types of files. The first type of file is called a MIDI file. A midi file contains musical instructions that is sent to the synth when the file is played. Such instructions could be "play a C3 piano tone at loudness 127 for 400 milliseconds." It is sort of an electronic version of a musical score.
The second type of file the Fantom can play is a audio file, sometimes called a audio sample. These files do not contain musical instructions, but recorded sound waves. In a way it is the recorded result of executing the musical score in the MIDI file.
An audio sample is very difficult to edit. You can chop it up, stretch it and distort it, but you cannot change the musical score behind it. For instance, you cannot remove the vocals easily.
The file you provied is a WMA file, which is of the second type.So you would be able to load the file into the X7 and play it, but you would not be able to remove the vocals that I guess you would like to provide yourself. You could in effect just as well play the song on an ordinary CD player.
Does this make sense to you?

Re: Can anyone convert a song into a SVQ file for me?
thanks for replying, yes, I understand what you are saying. I guess what I'm asking is if someone can sequence a song for me. Like make a midi file from scratch and put in the different parts. It may be asking too much from someone, but I figured if there are some really talented musicians here, it wouldn't be too hard. When I listen to the song, I only hear a few different instruments, so I thought someone might be able to recreate that on the fantom so I can sing along to it. Basically, I want to sing a song live in front of people, but have no instrumental to it. Hopefully I that make sense. I'm only a singer, and don't know how to play the keyboard so I don't know how to do it myself. I've seen midi files *.mid files on the internet, which can be loaded into synths, like the x7, then it would play all the parts. Maybe I need a midi file made, I'm not sure what the difference between a midi file and a svq file is. The person I talked to said it can load svq midi files and would sound great.
Thanks
Thanks

Great! Thank you very much!!!
Re: Can anyone convert a song into a SVQ file for me?
The unfortunate part of this whole thread is that the original poster has absolutely no idea what she is doing or even what she is talking about.
The Fantom is somehow in her mind a "magic music machine" that will somehow play the backing tracks for her if she only "imports an SVQ", that she would like someone to "convert" for her.
She has no idea what an SVQ is, how to operate the Fantom, or much of anything else it seems, but here she is asking for someone to do free work for her.
Sambasevam, it's "nice" of you in a way to offer to record this song for Erica, but do you really think you are doing a service by getting someone's expectations up beyond where they belong?
Wouldn't better advice be to tell Erica to find a local keyboard player to put together this music for her?
I can't imagine providing a SVQ file to Erica resulting in anything but frustration and ultimate failure.
Erica, doesn't your friend deserve better than a half-assed approach like this, especially for a wedding?

Mmmm - something that plays a backing track that you can sing along to. Well a karioke machine springs to mind.....
Sorry for being cynical but thats kind of what your asking for.
However, there may well be a general MIDI file out on the net for the song you have chosen. Unfortunately I am unable to listen to the file you have posted due to sound card problems, so I don't know whether its a commercial piece or not. The X7 you have access to is able to play GM files so its worth a look.
Dansgold you are, as ever, direct and correct - even though a wedding audience is the most forgiving you'll ever play to, a full-assed approach is always better.

sambasevam,
You may want to bear in mind that you have an S, and the church has an X. When you send the SVQ, patch settings, etc., will be different. This will most likely lead to some of the frustration that dansgold was speaking of.
You may be aware of this. . . it's just that if erica is expecting a 'pop-and-load' scenario, it most likely won't happen.

Re: Can anyone convert a song into a SVQ file for me?
I'm sorry dansgold, You are correct, I do not know exactly what an SVQ file is. I thought it had something to do with a certain format that the fantom plays like a midi file. An explanation I was given before was that a general midi file would play through the fantom but would not sound as good, kind of like older cell phone ringtones. But if it was a SVQ file, then it would route to the appropiate patches inside the keyboard which sound real and professional compared to general midi. This could be totally wrong, but that is what I was told.
Sambasevam, if this is too much work or too hard to do, please let me know that you can not do it and I will understand. I do not know exactly how hard this is to do for a keyboard player. I have sung in many different choirs and groups since I was young, and I can read and sing sheet music very well. I can sing all differenent parts, alto/soprano, melody/harmony very quickly, but when it comes to playing the piano/keyboard, I can only play common chords and pluck out the rest of the notes here and there. This song was the song that was requested, but if it can not be done, I don't have a problem telling them that and searching for a commercial song that I can find a backing track to. Sambasevam, thanks for giving it a try and accepting a challenge. All your work and effort is appreciated.
I don't know if this would be of any help to you, but I work at the Marriott hotel, and if you ever needed a hotel, I can give you my friends and family discount which would cost $30/night instead of $200+.

Re: Can anyone convert a song into a SVQ file for me?
erica,
Some of the information you received was not quite true. A general midi file played through the Fantom will sound like any other file played on the Fantom, including SVQ. The reason being that any file played will use the same sound set. . . the set of Patches (sounds or 'instruments') in the Fantom.
Just wanted to clear that up for further reference for you, if needed. I play midi files on my X all the time and they sound wonderful! The wildcard is in how the Patches are assigned in the file being loaded. It varies machine to machine, according to how the individual player has things arranged.

thanks for clarifying that for me bassman.

If I may make a suggestion, it might be advisable to simply deliver the tracks as an audio CD.
With everything else going on, having to deal with a FantomX without really knowing your way around it could be daunting.
A simple CD could be played by any DJ or soundman, and give Erica one less thing to worry about.
