So i just updated my fantom-s from 1.03 to 1.09. I followed the instructions by copying the existing ROLAND folder from my card onto my desktop, then proceeded with the update.
However, when i tried to put the old ROLAND folder back on the card, it says there's not enough free space! All i was doing was restoring the card to how it was before the update, and now there's not enough space.
I tried removing some svq's and samples from the ROLAND folder to make more room (even though i really shouldn't have to do that), but it still says the same thing.
Any help? thanks.
Problem with updating OS
Re: Problem with updating OS
i just read in another thread that you have to do the factory reset after updating, and this is something i did not do. could this be my problem?
also, is there any risk of losing anything when doing the reset?

Re: Problem with updating OS
No, you just need to delete the update folder first and then copy your original data first. The "roland" folder in your Fantom now contains the "fans.bin" file which is the update file that takes 12+ megs - just delete it and then copy the "roland" folder from your PC to Fantom.
Re: Problem with updating OS
thats the thing, i already did that....i did that before trying to put the orignal folder back in, and im getting this stupid message...
Re: Problem with updating OS
genious! thank you! thats really weird though...
Re: Problem with updating OS
Okay then, if you go to file utility, how much free space do you see in the user area? Now see what is the size of the "roland" folder that you want to copy from PC.
Re: Problem with updating OS
if you couldn't tell from my last post, asafar's suggestion worked, and i was just saying that it's weird that i would have to empty my trash bin in order to have enough free space on my card.
Re: Problem with updating OS
Okay now, I got it, I thought he was kidding
Maybe it's that your super-smart OS keeps the trash files on the same disk they are deleted from?
