American Companies Refuse to send Roland to Canada?
American Companies Refuse to send Roland to Canada?
Okay what the heck is this. I've looked at the American sites and thay are beating the pants off my local stores (by $500 AFTER Exchange and shipping).
I called 1 company and they told me they have an agreement with Roland America to not ship to Canada.
I would imagine that this is so the Canadian companies can charge outrageous prices with no compitition.
In the North American Free Trade Agreement EVERYTHING is greaaaaat for Americans importing from Canada, but if you're a Canadian trying to import from America everything is F*****!!!!!!! Brian Mulrooney was the sitting Prime Minister at it's first signing, I wish i could kick him in the balls, because we got the Sh**ty end of the stick on that one!!!!!!

The american distributor Roland US don't want to overlap with Roland Canada.
You can allways go to the US and buy on the spot, But the taxes at the border will be respectable, and most importantly Roland Canada will not honor the waranty.
This is comon practice among electronic's good.
Maybe try stores in Montreal, like Steve's Music and Italmelodie. (you can bargain a bit at these stores)
But a synth in Canada will be more expensive compared to US.
Good hunting

Re: American Companies Refuse to send Roland to Canada?
hey man, Maybe i can help out, I live in BC, what i did was i went to US, made a huge deal with Guitar Center, got about almost 650-750 US cheaper than up here, I bought a FAntom X8, SRX-06, SRX-07, Headphones, Cables, EV5 Pedal, Sustain Pedal, new Keyboard Bag and a new Keybaord Stand for about 3250 US then went back up paid tax over the border for about 350 Canadian, so over all i saved about 450 US. if you can do that it would be best, some people even take the synth out of the box put it in the Bag, put tape around it and go over and just say you had a gig. I didnt cause i was to scared but GC told me lots of canadians have done it.

The Rock's a beautiful part of our country, but I guess it has its downfalls.
Do you know anyone who would be traveling to an area where the Fantom can be purchased and bring it back for you, or someone who is coming to NL who can bring you a Fantom (paid for by you, of course)? My son was stationed there until recently and this WOULD have been a situation where you could possibly have been helped. Maybe you know of a similar situation.
Sorry, that's the best advice I can give you at this time.

EBAY?
Since, you'll not get the warranty in Canada when you buy from the US, look at buying from eBay. You may be able to find a seller who would ship to Canada.
Be careful though, there are lots of scammers on eBay these days.

I live in Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada, 3 hours from the Maine border. I purchased my X7 in January of this year. I had been looking for an SRX-07. A New Brunswick retailer quoted me a $475.00 retail price and a street price of $390.00 plus tax. His best price - $448.50 CDN, tax included.
There is a so-called duty-free music store in Van Buren Maine, USA, (Ezzy's) just a stone's throw from a small town called St. Lenoard, which is on the New Brunswick side.
At samash.com and other on-line sellers in the US, the SRX-07 retail is $299.00 US, but usually sells for $219 to $229 US. As of today, $219 US, with an exchange rate of 22%, 7% duty and 15% HST, works out to be $329.00 CDN plus shipping, but they won't ship it to Canada.
I got a quote for the SRX-07 from Ezzy's over the weekend of $351.20 CDN, delivered to my door.
So I called back the New Brunswick retailer, who called Roland Canada, got a blah-blah-blah story from them, then he repeated it to me.
Something's not right. The existing Roland Canada price list, set in March of 2004, does not take the current US-CDN exchange rate into account.
Oh, and by the way, I was told the SRX-07's are back-ordered in Canada. Ezzy's said I would get mine this week. Go figure.
I love this site. Extremely informative.

Re: American Companies Refuse to send Roland to Canada?
Roland Canada was great 15 years ago, today they just suck big time. And with their laughable site/support I wonder how they can justify the price difference with their US counterpart.
I bought my FS in Montreal brand new because with such a high priced equipment I wanted something new with the waranty.
But I bought my SRX-07 on E-Bay for 180.00 us and the card was not intercepted at the duty.

Re: American Companies Refuse to send Roland to Canada?
This may sound kind of obvious, but I have a few friends that live in Canada. Find a family member you trust and have them buy it for you. That way you you have the best of both worlds. Register the warranty with a US address.

Hey, I'm in Newfoundland stuck in the same situation. I want to buy a Fantom X6 within the next month but the prices around here are rediculous.
