OS2 pre-installed on FantomX
Hello guys!
I've just bought a FantomX last week in France and have OS 2 already pre-installed.
Any question ?

Re: OS2 pre-installed on FantomX
No. It's highly unlikely as Roland said Fantoms wont ship with the new OS until about March or later. However, you will be able to get the upgrade for free for your Fantom.

Nate, I think he meant that he HAS the 2.0 pre-installed on his newly-purchased FX.

That's it !
Re: OS2 pre-installed on FantomX
Ahh, I see. I'm betting it was a display model that was upgraded by a Roland rep. Could be wrong though. In any case, what are your impressions of the audio track features modroncube?

Well I didn't have much time to dive into my new workstation, but the audio tracks are quite convenient. You can record audio tracks just as easily as midi tracks. Just plug your external audio source (mine is a MIC), hit record, then start, and play (or sing).
Basically, it's sampling. You can edit what you record, re-place it where you want. And you can easily manage audio loops, just like in any software audio-midi sequencer such as Cubase or Sonar.
And earing my voice with MFX was funny too, though you don't need audio tracks for that.
> to beyondthesedoors : I found a new bank, called Preset (I) with 128 patches with the usual stuff (pianos, basses, leads, pads...). Plus you can play directly your samples in two special banks for samples stored in you media card or in RAM. Don't know about any perf changes.

File system BIG! question... (the following is only valid if
creat an audio track song with say more than one track.
Save song as myaudio (or similar) Save S+S
goto system,
switch off Load all user sample at start up..
power down.
power up
goto load song only
Q: has it loaded the audio track correctly?
Results not Excuses

Re: OS2 pre-installed on FantomX
Is playback of the audio tracks instantaneous? as in, no delay from the time you press play (since it's memory and not hard disk...) I;m mostly concerned about, say, a singer skips a section in a live show and you have to find that section and get back on track with the band.

I have the version two upgrade as well. Below is my $.02
Re: OS2 pre-installed on FantomX
I recently took my FX6 in for servicing (faulty pitch bender). A keyboard salesman that I became friends with a few months back suggested that I try out the X7 with the ver.2 upgrade. He said that a Roland rep dropped in a few days earlier and installed it. Needless to say after browsing through a few of the new patches in bank I, I instanly took it home.
The next morning I put together a small portion of the GAP band hit "outstanding". I figured it would be a good time to try out the new audio recording function. I proceeded to lay down the chorus vocals, and also a background vocal. Both played back together in perfect harmony and with the midi tracks .There was zero latency. The only drawback is that ther was no DIMM memory installed into the X7 so I was limited to the partially full smart media card I placed in the PC slot. I'm happy to report that skip back sampling has been fixed somewhat. I say somewhat because there is still a slightly audible difference between the actual song and the resampled song. It's not nearly as low as before, but still needs a little work IMHO.
Another plus is that the FX 2.0 lets you browse/edit as easily through your user samples/multisamples as you would the Rom samples and SRX expansion board patches. Oh and there are also markers that can be put in place to jump to certain parts in the audio tracks, just like on a "real" dedicated DAW. Again, no delay. Sorry for the lenghty post.

Huh!?
Sergievsky :
Why do you think it would not!? be instant.
its hdds that have delay probs since its machanical and moving parts.
with the audio track and all audio on the FX, all sound is already in Ram: and is processed instantly, otherwise the FX would not work correctly.
example:
you would not be able to hit pads and hear drums or hit a key and hear a sample or any sound for that matter.
muzik_85:
can you also do the filesystem test please...

o.s 2.0
If you realy got the o.s 2.0 pre-installed,you can us all do a favour and put the files(o.s 2.0) online for us.
Somebody can work it out,so we all can get it for free and thats the way it must be.
Because the most people already have compacflash and a pc card adapter,so that we dont need anymore.

Sure. I will do the test as soon as I get home. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe that the audio track ( samples) do remain after you power off as long as you save first (Song+ Samples). There should be no problems.I powered off, came back and just loaded the song from my SM card.It played back all of the midi and audio data I recorded before. However I will post again soon after I get the results just to be sure.
