Just got an X8 and need a good stand. Any recommendations?

Both at home and (hopefully) live. Don't want an x-type stand as they look boring and old fashioned.

Hi,

I use a Quiklok WS-550 with my X8 for home and live use. I find it really sturdy and easy to transport around. For me it's perfect. I'm not a big fan of the X-type stand either. This one just has four legs that fold out, and you simply rest the keyboard on top (it's almost like a table...). I play sitting down all the time, even live, but I think you can adjust the height If you're into playing standing up.

On the link provided in another thread, I see that Roland is introducing a "V-Stand" keyboard stand this week. Perhaps it will be something innovative and not "boring and old fashioned".

Make sure it doesn't shake when you play it. I got a 4 legged stand for my A-90 many years ago and it is rock solid. The X stands (I agree look dumb) are prone to shaking - even the double-braced ones. Those 88s are heavy and need really good support.

I have been using an Ultimate stand for alot of years now and even though it shakes and sways it has held two big boards for all those years and never dropped one of them. Plus people think you are setting up some sort of gym equipment when you bring it in the club. It's great and reasonably priced. JMIO

I just got a Quiklok Z-716 for my FX7 and I like it. The stretch version, the Z-716L for 88 keys, is here http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Z716L/ It's height adjustable so you can play sitting or standing.

I have got the 'Ultimate' stand. I prefer this to all the others due to three reasons:

1) On stage it looks awesome and impressive.
2) You can adjust it to any height, from a low 40 cm to 1.30 meter
3) Easy to fold up and to carry around

Unfortunately a bit pricey, but steady and strong built quality (you can do dips and chin-ups during breaks - so highly versatile)

I have an WS-550 with 2nd tier for "big deal" live playing w/dual keyboards, and it's a killer stand - but too bulky and heavy to carry around and set up for everyday use.

The platform stands are nice (and cheep = buy two

and have adjustable leg height to go higher, or for uneven floors. The legs fold upward and I use a bungee cord to keep them folded in place to carry.

I have two Quiklok QL746 stands I use for my X8 and also for a Trinity Pro X which is a bit heavier than the X8. Rock solid with heavy playing, quick and easy to put up and down. Cheaper than the table ones

I have an X stand. It's okay for quick set-ups and gentle music. Tends to shake if I start hitting the keys with any force. I have another stand as found at http://www.pssl.com/images/products/P0050414B.jpg . It is very versatile. I can spread it for a larger or smaller keyboard. The legs are individually adjustable to a very fine degree (for uneven floors, for example). One night, a drunk fell into the keyboard and stand before security could get to him. Nothing fell - the stand did its job. Although it takes a little extra time, it's inexpensive and sturdy!

I agree cheap X-stands can wobble like mad. I've got 'standard' double X-stands with the crocodile-type locking mechanism (cost around £25) which are fine until you start pounding out big octave chords with both hands where you then have to stick your knee under it to steady it!

I send out the QL746s with Trinities on hire (for Jesus Christ Superstar). The Pro X is a heavy, big beast and these stands hold them well with maybe the tiniest of movement, but cheaper and quicker to use and easier to carry than the tables ones.
