I've been a proud owner of a brand new S88 for two months now. Although I have been scouring this web site everyday...this is my first post. Thanks to everyone for making this such a wonderful community.
My exceptional girlfriend bought me the Supreme Dance and Platinum Tracks SRX boards for Hanakuh. I haven't opened them yet because I wanted to make sure they are worth the money. My question is this.
Except for a few handful of sounds, I have been mostly unimpressed with the "XV for S" converted patches. Since these SRX boards are older and work with the XV engine is it safe to assume that I may also be unimpressed with the SRX patches? Are they similiar to the types of patches from the XV or closer to the quality of the patches from the Fantom? I've listened to the demos but was not unable to tell too much from them.

Well... what kind of sound are you looking for? What patches of XV you don't like?
Those SRX boards will give you over a thousand new wave forms. They are good assets if you want to expand your sound collection. It is true that patches on SRX boards are designed for XV. Many of them don't take advantage of Fantom new EFX and Step LFO functions. Still you will have newer and different sounds(different instruments and models) with them. Both of them have good synth Bass and A.Bass sounds. Some good drum wave forms too.
Check SRX section of this site and see wave forms names. Compare them to internal wave form names.(same name doesn't mean sound the same...you can get interesting sound by mixing int. and SRX wave forms) And decide which one you gonna keep.

Thanks for your help. I will check out the wave form list and compare. I'm really into synth sounds, basses, leads, pads and pulsating sounds for dance music. I'm sure these boards are both great. But I just wanted to get some opinions since I wasn't so impressed with the XV patches in general. There are a few great ones...but not on the level of the Fantom patches.
So make your own patches.
SRX boards to me are not so much forthe patches, but for the sounds. You're adding completely new waveforms to your fantom. If you like the fantom sounds already, think how much more you'll like SRX waves to create even better patches.

Hey Tuff Guy, I have got the SRX Extreme Dance - these are my views:
If you are into Dance than the Extreme Dance is a 'must have'.
The Rhythm Kits are worse the money. Actually, I don't use the Fantom Kits at all anymore and solely rely on the Extreme Dance Kits. (I changed the default Rhythm Group settings for the Extreme Dance Kits, so all Rhythm groups run on Extreme Dance), The TR909 Kit is also good and with a bit of tweaking you got some pounding beats under your belt.
Synth Bass, Leads, Pads and Pulsating are an excellent addition to the stock sounds of the Fantom. Obviously, the Leads can't compete with a VA. For Leads and Synth Bass I use my Access Virus KC, the Pads of the SRX however are a serious alternative to the phatt Pads of VA's.
I don't have the Platinum Trax because its primarily all Loops. I had a lent of it and I didn't go for it as it is for DJ's who need an arsenal of Loops. I suggest to save the $'s on the Platinum Trax and to get a MicroKorg instead (they are about the same price) so you got some phatt VA leads to play along with the kits of the Extreme Dance.
