Update 2.50 bricked my Fantom 7

Post by dobrojoe »

Just updated to 2.50. After the normal boot sequence, the screen goes black and the keypad on the right has a circular pattern of light in the outside row. The power switch won't turn it off. I redownloaded the update, put it on a different USB drive and tried again. Same thing. How do I fix this?

I think you should try installing an old version (2.11)...

It is what I did when freezing was happening now and then on versions before 1.5.

Are you following the correct procedure...?

Thee files (_DATA, FANTOM_UPA.BIN, update) moved to root, not into any folder, on USB stick.
Power off.

USB stick connected to USB MEMORY SLOT.
WRITE button being HOLD.

Power on.
Wait for Step one anounced.
Release WRITE button so as to re-establish appropriate blood flow and have all your fingers ready at a later stage...

Wait for Step one to finish.
Move USB stick to either 1/2/3 EXT DEVICE slot.
Wait for Step 2 to finish.

Power off.
Remove USB stick.
Place, only if desired, USB stick into USB MEMORY SLOT.
Power on.

Yes, that is exactly what I did. I have done it many times before without any problem.

I reinstalled version 2.00. That worked fine. Redownloaded 2.50 and installed it again. Worked!!! Thanks for your help.

Lovely...
But remember, just in case for next time, that some expansions do requiere 2.1 at least...Four MODEL EXPANSION sounds (EXM001 through EXM004) supported from that version.

Hi,

I had the same issue as the OP.
Thanks for the help provided in this forum - did the same procedure - reinstalled Ver.2.11 and then back up to Ver.2.5.
This sorted me out - it was however a "5p, 50p" moment on the old backside whilst this process was going on I'll tell you as I thought I had wrecked my new baby.

In my case I now realise that I did not fully let stage 1 complete - You get "Transfer to Board 2" coming up from the get go and imho opinion that should only appear when Stage 1 Board1 complete message displays. I was taking the USB out too soon and putting it into USB 1 - 3 slots (external instruments) before Stage 1 had fully completed.

This may help someone out there.

As new owner of this beast I look forward to going through the forum for tips, advice, "how tos" etc.

Best wishes all.
