My wishlist is short and modest, and is with conjunction to the current FX:
1. Another USB socket that can receive storage devices like portable HD's (USB2) and thumb-sticks.
2. A style botton for each mainstream instument, i.e.: a key for a guitarist style (a certain note can be played using more then one string, and thicker strings make a note sound diffrent then thinner ones - add this charecteristics to the notes, according to a real 4/6/12 strings guitar fundementals). A Sax/Flute button (using the same thinking as with the guitar). A violine style, etc.
3. A touch screen (colorific as it is now, or better, via OLED or LCD).
4. More internal ROM, RAM, External card RAM support - not depended on the number of SRX's.
5. More polyphony.

As I said in the begining: MODEST....

No more "Fantom" moniker, something different.

I agree, Phait. I wouldn't mind Roland continuing the mythological deity nomenclature they used to use...maybe they can even go Norse or Greek this time, rather than Roman. The only downside is that the current title of this website/e-community would not reflect the new Roland product.

I'll start off the trend by dumping my dumb-ass, spur-of-the-moment, desperate-for-a-login-not-already-in-use login "moniker" here at this site...

There is something embarrassingly uncool when people try to be cool. eg. calling a Fantom a Fantom? (and it just gets worse with the F instead to the Ph) mis-spelling things to be cool is so 80's - in da hood, me and da boyz, etc.

and it looks like a cheap sanyo boom box with all the flashing lights and trash.

they should call it something really dumb like....um..any sugestions?

The Roland Lobster Thermidore x7
The Roland Rather Nice x8
The Roland Qwerty x6

anything but Fantom (how about Spiderman)

And all this criticism from a person called "honeyshape"!!

Why, that sounds so 60's.

I used phait accompli instead of fait accompli (original) because it wasn't used and it was different. But not to be cool. I have my sunglasses for that B-).

My wish list relates to features which could ALREADY be present, without any particular technical effort, in the actual Fantom series:

- convertion of JV/XV patches (within the limits given by the different PCM wavetables)
- 32 Midi channels (via Midi AND Usb)
- at least 3000 User patch memories (256 user patches and 256 card patches are a very BIG limit of the Fantom series: they are much less than the XV user-customable patches: 128 user patch and 1024 card patch)
- battery-buffered Ram, so that you do not need to load the samples when you turn on the unit
- usb full implementation (midi AND sample data)

i heard the Neko audio demos :
everything except the pianos sounded like crap....comeon guyz, FS can do faarr more than just that...i mean, look at the output, thats what matters...

to me, the output is what that should matter..take a triton, it sounds good. a motif, sounds good, FX sounds good....i can show you a guy who can kick a** with an N5 and a MC-50 sequencer...i can also show you a guy who can do nothing but "Jingle Bells" using a Neko 64 or whatever....

so, the person who works is the one that should change himself....ok, i do agree, i was also compliaining once in a while, its no harm, but its no good either...i dont complain that often.....and if i do, its just for personal satisfaction....

look at some of the albums produced today and those produced on the 80s...dont we still love the song "We Will ROck You"...did FS exist then??no...they sound good not because someone made them with Extreme or ES, but that person worked hard with the available equipment and produced some amazing results....i do accept that the equipment used would be advanced and much more flexible, but its his dedication that matters.....so the whole point of comparining things is itself useless.....ofcourse, now if you really want to be happy, u gotta be satisfied that u got the best product, but its not like a wish list is gonnna make albums sound better....

to me, FS is still the best not becos it has pads and sampler and all that, but because i simply have a great time when i play it!

Sam,
excellent point. Although there's nothing wrong with wishing for particular features... the more features there are, the less likely you are to understand your instrument inside out. Does a guitarist have any features of his guitar he doesn't understand or use? And does this stop him from creating great music?? I know that is an extreme example, but it does make my point.

My first synth was a Casio CZ-101... I had one of the first units in the UK and I still use it now! It was *because* of it's limitations that I created some great music with it. It forced me to look very carefully at what I was playing to make sure I wasn't outstripping the 4-note polyphony (yes, just 4!). The limitations "drove" my creativity into new areas I wouldn't have otherwise explored. Before we had reverb built in to synths, we would put a speaker and a microphone in a bathroom or a garage to get a 'verbed sound, we'd use 2 tape decks playing the same sound and fiddle with the speed of one by touching the reel to create phasing effects. I'm not saying having a synth with all these features is bad, but just how much do you explore the capabilities? How many of you delve into programming like Artemio, for instance, does to create new sounds?

I'm not rying to instigate an argument, just providing some "food for thought".

Dave.

do not make any new fantom. just fix the bugs of our fantom x 6. if roland decide to make a new keyboard, just make it with sufficiant cpu power and give it an another name, not fantom. learn something about making a keyboard how korg or yamaha developed there professional standard of sound quality and effect. fantom is like a beauty queen misplaced with a bargirl in a mexican cheap restorant. sorry guys, if i heart u. i like my fantom x6 though i am depressed with its buggy nature.

Only thing I can wish for is tonewheel simulation and drawbars, good EP modelling made after rhodes, wurly and clav, with their respective ring modulation, auto-wah/pan and overdirve. (tho the efects and leslies can be produced by pedals with better performance, still would be nice to have them in the board itself)

After that it would be the best there is.
