I'm just disappointed the piano roll editing turned out to be just deleting notes as the whole pattern to song workflow is really good.

You can always delete notes then overdub correct ones. Contrary to what support guy said, I don't believe this is the final version of Fantom sequencer.

We have a saying here at work: we can't accommodate everyone's feature requests first. What's more important to the engineering team? SN-A sounds, EP engine, Tonewheel organ, driver development, a purpose for the 3 USB host connections? Microscope event editing likely down the list.

That's ridiculous. My M3 has all these features despite the slow processor. Since at least 2011 nobody at Korg, Yamaha or Roland implements a good piano roll editor into it's "Workstations". That's like building a ne WORD version without backspace and delete. Back to the typewriter age, are we?

Agree with Saxifraga (if I remember well, I know you from Alesis Fusion forum, hi there !!).
It is simply not acceptable to have this limitations nowadays. For sure, this will be solved in future updates, but 'as is'... just incredible.

BTW, I've reviewed in full my FA-06 sequencer capabilities yesterday night, and I am quite impressed about how precise and deep is it. I was 'playing' with the Microscope event editing feature and I was literally amazed. A must have IMHO.

this is a shame.

The microscope editor was a staple for the workstation sequencer.. and I too read "piano roll editor" as the same capabilities as (say) the microscope editor on the Fantom G.

I was hoping that the new Fantom would be a significant step up for me.. I have the Fantom G6 + Integra 7 and a Yamaha S70xs for piano.. and I would be looking to dump all three units in favour of the Fantom 7.

However, I cannot give up the solid sequence editing and capable external synth control of the fantom G,
and would hope for a keybed capable of decent expression for piano playing in order to make this happen.

I had a play around with an MC707 which has the same sound engine as the Fantom and pretty much the same pattern concept. It struck me as a kind if desktop version of the Fantom with different controls and you can edit the notes on it so hopefully the teams will chat to each other and some code migration will happen ;)

There is a recommendation from the people for a USB connected iPad with CUBASIS. So, would this be a proper solution.

No, because ther is no API for Cubase/-basis and the F to communicate with each other.
You will not get the deep integration Logic and Mainstage have.
And since Cubase is owned by Yamaha, I guess there never will be such an integration.

It's back to the good old eighties, wher you worked with ATARI ST & Cubase and synths connected with MIDI cables. We just now use USB and don't need an external tape machine for audio recording.

Reminds me of US healthcare incrementalism. Please don't call this innovation.

I have the new fantom 7. I can't believe they have not added full features piano roll editor Style. theres hardly any features if any, for editing notes. If I'm doing a chord progression of 7th chords I can never do that flawless there's always something messy either velocity needs editing or sloppy notes even after quantized. I've just tried to record a part more then 10 times and there's always something that needs editing. why wouldn't they add this as a feature ridiculous... makes my Triton extreme sequencer seem so advance and that's more than 15 year old technology. You can in-depth edit anything on the Triton. I really hope Roland add this in a future update so important to have the ability to edit midi

Yeah, I still find it incredible that they included a piano roll but did not give us any access to edit it. Yet, you can do this on the mc-707 and mc-101 which both share the same sound engine with the Fantom.

Wassup Ya'll,

Just out of curiousity, is it possible to record a sequence Real-time and edit the steps in Tr-rec mode? If that is possible, then that could be an interesting proposition as a semi replacement for piano-roll. Can one of you with the new fantom test this theory and report back? Im on the fence like everyone rlse about pulling the trigger o one of these boards and trying to justify the price for current funtionality.

No I tried that no luck. just hope they add a lot more features to the piano roll editing... don't be put off by all of us bitching on here about things we're not happy with or more what we want added. Everything this synth does so far is bang on what a piece of kit and having everything in the same mode is a game changer not like on the other workstations when you have go from programme to combi

I've watched a heap of videos on the new Fantom range and in one of them it was mentioned that you could edit your patterns in a piano roll.

I tried it out today, went to a store, managed to create a pattern and when it was in the piano roll screen the only thing I could do was delete existing notes. I wasn't able to create new notes, nudge existing notes, change the length of existing notes, change the velocity of existing notes and I wasn't able to move notes up or down the octave.

This would have been the killer feature for me because this combined with the TR-Rec recording, the groups and song creation make it a fantastic workstation. However without the ability to edit patterns post-recording them seems like a missed opportunity.

The piano roll feature has been implemented and can be downloaded as a part of the new Roland Fantom 6/7/8 update 1.10:

This is excellent news! Now I just have to save up to get the Fantom as I bought a Quantum instead back when I first created this thread.

I had a go at editing notes in-store and it works really well. Well enough that I bought a Fantom 6 there and then.
