TR-8S : 2019 Feature Request

Hi TR8S User, Hi Roland,

The previous topic about the feature request is getting a bit old, so let's start a fresh list of my requests of improvements or new features. I'll list them in order of priority from my opinion, and only the ones I think are really useful/necessary. Thanks to joefrost01 for his excellent ideas.
IF YOU WANT TO VOTE FOR SOME FEATURES, PLEASE USE THE CORRESPONDING LETTERS and I'll add the count to the original post. Maybe this way Roland will consider us soon :-)

A : Multiple FX on master : To be able to use the Master FX as the CTRL knob of each track > overlaying of effects (for example : enabling compessor + playing with HPF/LPF)

B : Melodic sequencing on MIDI output : To be able to send a sequence to an external midi synthesizer in a better way (I think the current implementation is useless).

C : Semi-tone tuning : Would be great to jump between semi-tones (SHIFT + Tune). Scales and a wider range would be also nice.

D : Cue channel : Optionally routing a muted track to the headphone (to preview sounds during a live performance).

E : Sample time-stretching. Seems clear.

F : Saving default settings : To be able to change default values like UTILITY > MIX OUT > MODE : BOOST/NORMAL

G : More LFO's This would be great to have a second LFO

H : Randomness (or a S+H LFO)...

I : Reloading A combo key to reload the saved pattern+kit

J : Sampling on EXT IN Would be so nice to save external sound and use them as samples

Despite all these possible improvements, I think this drum machine is one of the best drum machine so far. Thank you Roland to make such great products.

A key combo to Reload Kit.

The ability to assign the pitch and decay knobs to anything we want like we can do with the CTRL knobs.

Actual sampling (recording the external inputs) would be awesome!

+2 on being able to just sample the ext input directly from the TR-8s.

Having to do it via a computer->SDcard->import is a bit cumbersome and not an effective workflow IMO.

I'd like pattern launch via MIDI and a full sysex implementation for controlling all parameters.

The possibility to choose which tracks (incl. "ext in", ideally each in mono and both stereo mode) are affected by the auto fill / manual trig function.

Example: you have a synthesizer routed in the external in which is playing pads or something similar and you dont want it to be chopped up.

Would be GREAT.

Other than that, I think SEMITONE STEPS are absolutely vital.

Of course live sampling would be amazing but I suspect that this is going to be difficult/impossible to implement with the current hardware components and routing...

Nice suggestions, especially semitone tuning, a way to reload original kit it instantly, 2nd lfo... but what I find more important.

1) Sample per step (or at least an option to have user ALT sound on user samples )
2) Trig conditions to let individual sounds play once in 2/3/4/8/16 beats and with % probability
3) Different last step for each variation (A,B,C,D, etc... )
4) Phaser / Flanger / Chorus / RIng Mod as IND Effect on instruments
5) Possibility to send DEL into REV and REV into DEL
6) A way to change Pitch / Attack / Decay / FIlter for all instruments, like master control

Also:

No more shift + inst / shift + kit combo... Just press INST to edit instrument or KIT to edit kit...

Wider sample rate/bit depth options for loading samples (now my TR8s freezes when I try to load 32bit or higher than 48.000hz samples )

Good point. I especially agree with this one. The pitches of the melodic things you have made with Coarse tune (melodic bass lines and so) can't be send to your DAW or another synth as far as I know (?). Only the rhythms not the pitch data. Therefor you can only use it on the TR-8S itself. So therefor useless or at least very limited if you want to integrate in other things. That is correct right?

Also an easier way to route LFOs into parameters would be greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid that recording from the EXT IN would require a larger LCD screen with the ability to see the sample we just recorded and being able to cut the sample where we want...etc.

Also please please please, micro shifting or nudging each step to give a humanized feel ( not Quantized all the time).

More fx (like all instrument fx) on the external input would be great. Also the ability to truly split the inputs into 2x mono with separate sidechain/fx settings per input would be awesome.

As a workaround, you could use one of the instrument channels to use as a trigger out. Then the last step option DOES work
