First off let me say that I love the Fantom X. I'm planning on buying one at the end of this week. The only downfall that kinda irks me is the Data Storage aspect of the Fantom X.
Now I may just be overlooking this but... I have a 1Gig Compact Flash Card with PCCard Adapter waiting for the new Fantom at home.
When I go to record vocals, I feel like I'm going to run out of space quite quickly; or maybe even that I'll only be able to master the vocals on one song at a time. If I wanted to do more, I may have to dump the files from the card down to my computer, and when I'm ready again, pop it back on the card.
The problem is, I will be traveling when I record, I won't always be by a computer. I understand that the FantomX does not accept a USB HardDrive. Is there any other way possible that I could record vocals without having to worry about the storage space?
Thanks for reading, sorry for the long post,
Jason

Re: External Storage
It seems as if you're using the Fantom as a digital recorder, correct? If so, your 1 GB CF is a great start.
Now, if your Fantom is fully expanded with Sampling RAM, you will be able to record about 52 minutes of material before you run out of Sampling RAM. You can then save this to the card. You can then repeat the procedure and add about another 44 minutes or so. If this is not enough, you can get another CF card. You will need to reboot, but if this is one of the main uses for your Fantom, you might want to consider some other recording alternatives.
I'm not trying to be negative, you just didn't give a whole lot of information on your individual process.

Re: External Storage
mucsusn, given the 544MB limitation i'm assuming that 52minutes is for a single track. So using the max of 16 tracks, it comes up to the average length of a song 3-4minutes...which you have to admit is still pretty darn good.
If you want to get a whole album on there, a 2GB or even 4gb pc card sounds like a good idea. You can have all the songs in one project/album on one card and not have to reload to a different card and restart the FX/S.

Re: External Storage
Yes, I'm talking about 52 minutes of stereo audio. At the Fantom's sampling rate, it's about 10MB per minute.
I think perhaps you may be getting a bit confused with tracks though. The Sampling function gives you 2 channels of audio. We can bastardize this function and think of it as a rudimentary audio recorder, and the sheer amount of RAM makes it a viable option for live stereo takes. There are not, however, 16 tracks. There are 16 tracks in the sequencer, and you can sample audio alongside the sequencer. Just don't try to conceptualize the Fantom as being capable of more than it is.
Going back to your original example. You can sing your vocal track into the Fantom next to your sequenced tracks. Then you can resample that whole product and save it to CF. But if need true multi-track audio, then you need a DAW or a dedicated digital multi-tracker.

Re: External Storage
I'm just trying to make sure the he (and you) are distinguishing between audio and midi sequences. Since you chose to use the word track, and then use the 16 track example.

Re: External Storage
The D'uh wasn't meant for you...it was because i obviously did not clarify that i was referring to sequencing. mucsusn, i've learned a lot by reading threads/answers from guys like you and artemio. I'm still learning....
