Whats the max GB the 8800 will see effectively?

I know I have put a 1GB RAM stick in and it shows correctly, but heard it can glitch out exceeding it, so I wondered if HD behavior might get same results. Like as soon as you exceed the 160GB mark, will it possibly not write correctly?

Anyone exceeded the 200GB mark with data and getting no issues?

Has the 1gb Ram worked flawlessly for you? If so, would you mind telling me what brand you used? I have 512mb in it now and it works great, but I would love to add more RAM. The 1gb I added to my Fantom has me longing to equip my MV in the same manner.

Just a FYI, the SSD upgrade on a MV-8000 works. I used the Zheino SSD drive on the first page of this topic and one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006B8C2/.

I had 1GB of ram for a while, but I had issues with patches/samples becoming static/screeches, which is the same problem I experienced with a bad RAM stick that failed DIMM diagnostics. Also, it's worth mentioning that I never came close to actually needing that much RAM.

And hey, what's up y'all. Old-school mvnation member here :) Rockin' the same old-ass MV since 2004, now with a 8800 in the mix as well!

The 1GB worked, but I took it out because I'm not risking lockup or glitches just for the extra RAM. I was initially interested in it until I actually started using tye mv8800 as a centerpiece to my studio exclusively running my hardware synths. I've never even come close to using 256mb RAM on any project.

The only way I could see doing that would be creating a grip of patterns/songs that all load up as one project so you could avoid load times if playing live with an mv sampler. I'm a home studio warrior only right now. Possibly soon working on a project at my friends studio, but still not live sets of many songs.

I just bought a brand new old stock mv8800 on ebay today, then immediately bought a 512mb stick for it. I'll stick with the 512mb. I never thought a sampler would be this efficient in RAM use. Amazing really.

This one is getting the ssd upgrade for sure. I don't use the dvd writer I upgraded in my other mv8800. Probably do a swap to cf to sd adapter and throw in another 128gb sd card. Wish the op1 cards were more abundant, but I'll keep searching for one of those.

Added Zheino 128gb ssd to my new MV. 2nd SSD caddy mod was a bust - that caddy has no obvious way to make it appear as a slave drive. There are some people that have modded caddy's though. Also read a post on a computer forum where a guy found a SATA SSD caddy with jumpers on it to set Master or Slave. I'll keep looking but not too worried about it. As long as the first PATA SSD works fine. I also loaded up all the content Roland packs with the MV's.

No pad mod yet. Going to see what I feel for difference of brand new factory pads compared to my fat pads on my other MV

Well, it seems only one model caddy with jumper settings. Newmodeus ssd caddy for hp 2510 laptop. This is a 9.5mm SSD caddy so it should fit fine. Has jumper setting for master or slave. Apparently when owners of hp 2510 notebook replace the optical drive with an ssd, it will make first original drive disappear. With jumper set to slave it works. Last attempt at this one. Ordered and will keep original CDRW in if it doesn't work or repkace with UJDA770 CDRW/DVD ROM like I did in my first MV.

Just my luck. Newmodeus discontinued their hp 2510 caddy with the jumper settings configurable. They responded to my inquiry about similar caddy ability saying they had another one they are working on, but waiting for parts shipping on one of the key parts for it. Zheino is a nice drive though for a PATA SSD. Solid construction and read/write speeds similar to other higher end pata ssd drives. They all have limitations on read/write sustained speeds.

Here is something fun I am just discovering though that probably a lot of experienced users already found out years ahead of me - my first mv8800 has had a mouse and monitor hooked to it from day one. This new one I got does not have a monitor or mouse hooked up yet, so I have been using it entirely on the built in screen and using the controls on the surface. Damn they did a great job of making everything easy to control. Menu's and functions are very fast with this thing just cruising the control surface.

The pads are alright too. I flipped the pad sensitivity to light and it is a big difference compared to medium or heavy settings. Pads are ultra responsive. I have my first setup like that too, but thought it might have been the fat pads that helped.

Bring on the competition. The MV holds its own. I must have spent two months in 2014 looking at MPC vs MV and chose the MV for how deep it goes with all you need in one box. Worth researching. MV's will give me years of solid, stable performance.

just something for people not having an ssd in there or future plans to do so... the thing thats bugging me the most in terms of speed is " creating new project" when you do so its starts checking drive, checking this, creating folder blabla.

you can speed this process up considerably by just having a designated 0mb project on the disk that you load up when you start something new and when you save you save as new project and the 0mb project is free to be used again. on my disk, thats like 10x faster. not even exaggerating

I have a standard template for new projects I setup that has tracks ready for the ten synths I run off the mv8800. Loads quickly. Just do a save as with a new name and template always there for a new project.

a tip i saw from youtube user e two one (or sumthing) was also quite helpful In that respect.. just use the new song from the setup within the project. and switching patches in and out of the library. only drawback is that your projects become bulky but you load them only once anyway.
