Ram ram
Re: Ram ram
I have posted my question in the wrong place, but I can’t move it to the right one.
Or can I?
Or can I?
Re: Ram ram
I think your posting is ok here.............try an actual file storage and transfer exercise to test your memory capacity.
Re: Ram ram
Hello zer0to. If the XR is saying you have a 128 MB RAM stick in there, it probably is a 128 MB RAM stick. You could try putting that stick in an older computer and see what it shows up as, but it sounds like you got a good deal.

Re: Ram ram
Hi.
Ok, I will put the ram back to the XR for some more testing.
(I know the ram stick is 64MB)
Thank you.

Re: Ram ram
By the way,
Does anyone get some noise when the XR usb is connected to a mac?
I do...

Re: Ram ram
pc 100 came in two flavors,
single density and double density.
older systems only recognize one side of the double density ram and work fine ... except that they see only half the memory addresses
newer memory controllers (including the fantom) can see all the memory addresses on a double density memory chip... this was because of the advent of not needing matched pairs of ram for upgrades...
so you might actually have a 128.. just wanted to let you know...

Re: Ram ram
It sounds logic.
And how can you tell if it is single or double density?
And how can you tell if it is single or double density?
Re: Ram ram
Im not sure... they look the same I beleive... there is a possibility that on single density that the chips are on one side of the pcb... but I have seen double density on a single side too... I think you actually have too look up the chip number with the manufacturer to check....

Re: Ram ram
My ram have the chips only on one side.
Thank you for the info.
So... no one gets some noise with the usb connected?

Re: Ram ram
I get noise when my Fantom is connected to my computer via USB.
I guess they kind of overlooked that we'd want high-end filtering of noise on our high-end workstation.
Solution:
Get a memory card reader for your Mac. Use MIDI cables for MIDI, not USB.

Re: Ram ram
So what’s the usb is all about?
)
eq I use more for creativity and as much lees for cleaning noises. good quality sounds starts at the source.
-I would like to use the U S B, please...
-Oh you cant it’s no good.
the solution is no good for me, I mean this is A sound machine...

RAM/SDRAM on the Fantom-X
People.
Many have made this clear, but I will make it even more:
Roland specifically tells you the * O N L Y * Dimms that have a good chance to work on the Fantom-X series are:
64/128/256/512Mb 168pin PC133(133Mhz CL3) or PC100(100Mhz CL2) SDRAM Dimms, 3.3 V. w/ max hight of 38mm (non-ecc or ecc is up to you).
For those who need to know, CL stands for CAS Latency.
This all is stated on Rolands Fantom-X series manuals.
Cheers,

Re: Ram ram
Yes, the manual states that info. BUT, it does NOT tell you if you can use sticks with 64x4 hi-density chips, or 32x8 low-density chips. Both types of sticks match all the specs given in the manual.
