RT track muting with the pad bank

Post by The_Czar »

Is there a way to do this?

I checked out the thread on mute passes and thought this might be the solution. I might not be doing something right though.

Anybody know of a procedure I can do to be able to toggle mutes? I don't need to be able to record the info or anything. I just want to be able to trigger multiple mutes at the same time, ala mpc.

thank you

The MIDI implementation section (at the back of the Fantom-X manual, or a separate manual for the Fantom-S) has all the icky details for that kind of stuff... I was reading through it a while ago and there are SysEx messages one can construct which would mute a channel in perf mode. You could put a bunch of those into RPS patterns and map them to pads/keys.

Just go to the mixer screen and select the mute softkey. Now all 16 pads can mute the 16 channels. They toggle (hit once they mute, hit again the unmute).

Does this help?

yes it does.

I guess it's a blessing in disguise that I didn't figure it out until now. I'm pretty slick with the song edit now.

Oh, by the way. Is there any way to copy and past like half of a measure....like say I want the start of a particular measure to hit 8 times before the track really starts. Anyone know about copy/pasting fractions of measures?

All editing is done by the measure.

What I would do is copy a measure of what you want to another track. Go into microscope and delete the half of the measure you don't want. Now you can copy that section back into any other track (use mix rather than replace).

That's what makes the sequencer so great. You can move stuff around without losing which channel it goes with.

Additionally you can use the move command. Hold the shift key and press up or down in microscope mode. Move the notes forward one beat. Copy the phrase back in at beat one. Move those notes up one beat. Copy the phrase back in. Do this until you have 8.

With regard to your question about real-time track muting, you can record these mutes and unmutes by turning on the "Send Edit Data" parameter in the MENU -> System -> MIDI tab. While recording, using the mute function described by MIDIguru will be recorded as sysex data in whichever track you are recording in.

Does this only apply to the X or can the S also do this?

unfortunatly only X- This is one of the other feats that the X has other than more polyphony, wave rom, and live setting mode. And piano mode if you dont have the S88
Also i heard somewhere, FX has better Pad sensitivity.

I don't see why you couldn't go to the mixer screen on the S while recording and mute/unmute parts. You're still generating sysex and it should be recordable.

Has anybody tried this?

But I dont think you can use the Pads to Mute the parts. on the S. Im sure you can. Another Thing that could be useful is to solo instead of muting all 15 pads lol Nathan told me you can do that by going on the Mixer Screen and i did and it recorded so i dont see why mutes cant.
its just a button away!!
