Re: Fantom X8 Is Digitized
If you haven't solved this yet, I agree that the local switch has to be off. In addition to this (which someone else almost touched on) your DAW is probably playing the audio input of the Fantom as well as the sending the audio through the internal DAW mixer onto the master track. If this is the case, you have to deselect the send from the audio input channel to the master channel. In other words, turn off the routing to the master channel when you are dealing with EXTERNAL audio like the fantom. When you are dealing with internal vsts and other software instruments, the standard routing is fine.

V-CeeOh thank you - this simple set of steps has solved a myriad of issuse for me.
I don't get it. **One** MIDI cable?
1- If you're using standard MIDI cables you should be using 2.
2 - If you're using standard MIDI cables were do you connect them?
3 - Why use MIDI cables if you can use one simple USB cable to make the connection?[/quote]

It appears that the Fantom X is unconnected
Realizing that both the thread and the Fantom X are quite old, I thought I'd go ahead and add my $0.02 for anyone else still using this gear.
In my case, the "It appears that the Fantom X is unconnected" was directly related to a couple specific performances I was attempting to load into the editor. Other performances would load without issue but when I tried to load a certain performances, the progress bar on the computer would hang part-way before erroring out. (I suspect the performance somehow became corrupted by a MIDI patchbay that went insane while connected to the Fantom)
Once I initialized the performances in question and rebuilt them from scratch, the performances loaded without issue.

Re: Fantom X8 Is Digitized
or maybe you are using the midi output AND the USB-MIDI.
And the fantom is transmiting thru USB and MIDI (normal 5pins) Output the same notes.
Some DAWs are using as input the "ALL" system so if Fantom is transmiting thru MIDI and USB the same notes.. ... you will have the "flaming" sound even if local is off.
