Re: New Roland Jupiter Legacy Collection
The detective work continues:
At 00:14 in the video, the start-up screen is different, the letters JUPITER-80 (or is it JUPITER-8?..) are placed higher on the screen compared with how it looks on my JP-80.

Well spotted - I think you're right!kokocalamar wrote:The detective work continues:

Another thing that just struck me (just call me Sherlock... lol!) - The animated icon at the end of the video - it has 8 segments around the rotating dial. 4 are greyed out. 4 are in colour - or active perhaps?
Makes me think that this is going to come in more than one phase - 8 'engines' or 'essences' of which 4 will form the first release...
This is fun :)

Re: New Roland Jupiter Legacy Collection
IMHO, by Host Mechanism Roland should be referring to a VST (or similar) Host System already built inside the JP-80, that is now going to be used at its full potential, importing the Vintage Collection algorithms getting them to run and presenting them properly to the user on the internal Display and/or iPad.Dany wrote:
"We've now successfully transfered the proposed synthesis objects into the NEW JUPITER-80 HOST MECHANISM..."
Which means, that they have transfered some of their vintage Roland synths with their specific characteristics into the NEW HOST MECHANISM of the JP-80.
Whatever this "host mechanism" is, but it must be something new!

The time will tell...
Good stuff to talk about here :-)
Also appreciate your deep analysis, Dany
And also good stuff Roland !!!
Re: New Roland Jupiter Legacy Collection
It is already available.
Do you know how to install?
It has SVD file, so we could import from system, but also there is bin file.
dunno how to install this bin into JP80.

No, it is not yet available, you are confusing things here!beavis28 wrote:It is already available.

The link "Analog Synth Collection", which you have seen here: http://www.rolandus.com/go/jupiter-80/ under the Menu "Resources", ist the free "Analog Synth Collection" from Bernd Kistenmacher, also available here on the german roland website: http://www.rolandmusik.de/produkte/JUPI ... ?downloads and is available since weeks.
As it's called "Analog Synth Collection" it has nothing to do with the not yet available "Jupiter Legacy Collection"

very confusing name,,
Thanks Danny
Re: New Roland Jupiter Legacy Collection
This one little word is THE weak point of my "detective play", which can bring the whole house of cards down. Maybe we shouldn't trust the Roland marketing folks too much, as we shouldn't expect too much from Roland, in order to avoid a disappointment...knolan wrote:...The issue for me is raised by the line Dany quotes :"We are attempting to transfer the ESSENCE of vintage synth sounds into the NEW JUPITER-80 HOST MECHANISM" - as in - the use of the final "the" and not "a"...
But it's really hard to give up the hope...let's see what other hints we might find... ;)

Hmm, I believe Cello is on to something here..cello wrote:Another thing that just struck me (just call me Sherlock... lol!) - The animated icon at the end of the video - it has 8 segments around the rotating dial. 4 are greyed out. 4 are in colour - or active perhaps?

This is fun :)
I am sure that logo will make perfect sense once the collection is released.
More guesses, anyone?..

Re: New Roland Jupiter Legacy Collection
Host mechanism can only be the OS as long there is no new hardware added. It doesn't matter if the mechanism is new or means the old "new" JU80 synth engine.
If they say: "The goal of this project is to preserve Roland's rich synthesis history" then it would be redicullous if they just put out a sound collection - that has nothing to do with the "synthesis history". Any old fashioned sample libary has a lot of these sounds already. This can only mean they analized and created algorithm based on the original synth to ensure that they will still be available for new sound creation in the future. They are following what Korg has already put in the Kronos. I'm not a big Korg fan but it seems that the concept with the VA vintage synths is a major selling point and we can only hope for Roland that they will add that concept to the JU-80. It would be great if they would open their OS for 3rd party developer-than this would open a new universe...I remember Oliver Schwarz from Germany developed a sample option in the late 80ies for the D-50 and added new waveforms, added multi timbre and some other things, but you had to open the synth and replace some parts (Marillion used it).
And my last point: The guy in the video wears adidas sport trousers. He is still in the 80ies and a engineer crack not just a simple sound developer. LOL

Okay, then forget it: it's just another useless sound libary... Re: New Roland Jupiter Legacy Collection
Good points all, but Koko's comment about the Adidas sport trousers had me doubled over in laughter! I'll give the Tibbster his due for his great demo's and all...I guess fashion just isn't his strong suit! And he isn't even German! ;-)
Don't get mad at me Deutschlanders...just having some fun at some of the dubious fashion choices (plaid trousers and plaid jackets) that come over here to work from time to time (and my heritage IS German on both sides of the family!)
Good one kokocalamar! That's my hearty laugh for the day.
As for the Legacy...the suspense is too much. Bring it on!

Ok wait ,
When he says " into the new Jupiter 80 host mechanism " they purposely at that moment show a loading screen
As if this is some type of new mechanism and it is a loading screen I haven't seen before .
I'm thinking this is something more than sound sets .
