XV5080 files for fantom x

Post by fanoftom »

Hello everyone!!

How do I load the XV5080 patches into my fantom x so that I can play them? I can see the XV5080 file in the fantom X file utility but when I copy it into the .svd folder in the user memory then switch the fantom on then off again, I see no XV sounds for me to play. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help!!

Hello fanoftom

"XV Patch Library
Thanks to artemio for including the link in the newsletter to the XV patch library for the FS that Roland have made available at
PC: ftp://ftp.roland.co.jp/pub/roland/japan ... XV_Data.EX...
Mac: ftp://ftp.roland.co.jp/pub/roland/japan ... XV_Data.si...

This is a truely excellent bank of patches that includes many JV/XV old favourites

The instructions are in Japanese unfortunately, but it is straightforward using the Librarian.

Open Librarian
Open the patch file
Copy the patches from the patch file window into the main window
Put the FS in Librarian mode
Write all or selected to the FS. "

"Well, if you looked at Lawrencew's first post in the thread I gave you above, he walks you through the process. I'm not sure what I can add to help, but:

1. Download the file from one of the links above (if you have a PC, use the "PC" link; if you have a Mac, us the "Mac" link).

2. Double-click on the file you downloaded. If you have a PC, an .exe file will run (click the left button...it's in Japanese, but it essentially means "OK"). Make sure you note where it is installing your files. It should put an XV Data folder in the same directory as the one to which you originally downloaded the .exe file. [NOTE: If you have a Mac, roughly the same thing occurs.]

3. Connect your computer to your FS via Midi OUT/IN on the back of your FS. Use whatever Midi interface you have (be that a MIDI-to-USB, MIDI in/out on your soundcard, etc.).

4. Open up the FS Librarian on your Computer. Use the Librarian's "Open" command to open the .fsl file that is in the folder you decompressed. You should see a bunch of patch names (1024, to be exact), including a bunch of piano patches at the beginning (some fairly good ones, I might add).

5. Turn on your FS (if you haven't already). Hit MENU and scroll down to Librarian and hit ENTER. You are now in Librarian mode.

6. Experiment with the patches. You can click on the "Preview Start/Stop" buttons to trigger a brief, pre-programmed preview phrase for each patch to get a sense of what it is like.

7. You can use the WRITE button in the Librarian to transfer up to 256 of the patches into your User Memory Bank (this will overwrite what's there so, if you want to save it, make sure to back it up to your computer first). If you select "ALL", then the first 256 will get written to your User Memory. Alternatively, you can select only some of the patches. Read more about this in your Librarian Help files an in the Manual.

Enjoy.

Cheers,
RW

Well, DogZilla, these files are for FS librarian, not FX. It is very easy to turn the FS librarian files to FX format, but here's the all-ready FX librarian file: ftp://ftp.roland.co.jp/pub/roland/japan ... V_Data.EXE

Thanks very much guys. I shall try this out. I've never used the librarian before. I was hoping to just use the compact flash card! I'll let you know how I get on!!
