If your G was stolen or lost would you buy another one?
Re: If your G was stolen or lost would you buy another one?
Wow! Really interesting question.
I really enjoy the G6 live as it fits my needs to a T. (My band is a bit unique as I'm in a two keyboard situation and the other keyboardist plays "acoustic piano" and "clav" while I'm the "Rhodes" and "B-3" guy.)
Before going back to another G,I'd look very closely at the options: Korg, Hammond.
Same goes for the studio situation. My master is a G7 and I'd likely not replace it with another Roland as
I don't rely on the internal sounds.
Don't get me wrong: I really like the G but, like most, am very displeased with Roland for "orphaning" us
with no further updates or support.

My dear Tommie, does "master" mean "master keyboard" or just simply "master?"vismus wrote:…My master is a G7…

GW:
I use the G7 as a master keyboard.
When purchased, I was the only keyboardist in my weekend gig but since then, we've added a second player so I can play more sax.
I got a good deal on a floor model G6 via Ebay and it's filling the bill for my weekend siutuation.

i would go for yamaha workstation such as the xs or xf. if not, i would get the s90 es.Quinnx. wrote:So.. your precious G has been lost or stolen..
your broken up about it..
an you need to replace it.
What do you do..?
Re: If your G was stolen or lost would you buy another one?
that sounds all well and good unless you have invested alot of time and effort in making the G a central part of production with live sets studio sets patches etc...
If time is money then your not going to go to a new platform and start all over again...

Re: If your G was stolen or lost would you buy another one?
No lie, I just dropped off my Daughter's Fantom-X8 at her apt.... it's been in my studio for the last two years.
I still find it very useful. It wasn't the center of my studio, but I used it often..... the sampler, the sequencer, the audio tracks.
But honestly, I miss my Fantom-S. My nephew is supposed to bring it over sometime this week.. & I can't wait.
If either of these were stolen, I wouldn't buy the G. I'd probablly get a used Fantom-S. Maybe an X6 or X7. Nothing against the G...... but there are so many X's & S's on the used market right now... & the price, I can't see myself paying the premium for the G, even used.
But the S is all I need, & it works fine.

to paraphrase your post...
If the fantom G you dont have was stolen or lost you would not buy another one................

Definitely and Absolutely(unless I am in a bad financial situation).Roland Fantom G is the ultimate workstation to have particularly if you have it fully upgraded.Personally I hate DAWs and prefer a workstation only music composition environment! Its serving me well, all I have to do is compose, save it on a USB as a wave sample, convert it to mp3 in my laptop and burn a cd.I still don't get it why people like to go to the hassle of using a software DAW!
Re: If your G was stolen or lost would you buy another one?
Quite a lot of people don't get it why one would hassle with all the limitations on a workstation sequencer with very limited functions, instead of using a software sequencer.rolandlover wrote:I still don't get it why people like to go to the hassle of using a software DAW!
Editing of midi events on a software DAW and a workstation is like night and day. The same is true for the audio side. Why would I bother with a 1Gb Ram limitation instead of using a software DAW with no limits on how much audio I can record, not to mention all the fantastic tools available there. I'll just mention automatization as one feature where both systems compare like stone age and modern age. It's like riding an ox compared to flying on a modern jet plane.
Re: If your G was stolen or lost would you buy another one?
I have to admit that if it were ever stolen or lost, i will buy another one - the only reason being comodity : as much as i'd love to give a spin to the XF or Kronos models, i am a gigging musician, and as such i have huge live sets, made and tweaked in the past years. Switching to another workstation would mean going back to square one in reconstructing those sets, instead of refining what i already had...
Re: If your G was stolen or lost would you buy another one?
Yes I would at this point. I'm getting quite good results out of it. Has exceeded my expectations for a ROMpler. It's soooo much easier to programme and unlike the JV series, the results are usually always good.
