another G?
or let say there's another new Fantom version..i'll definitely buy the latest version :D
or let say if shit happens & i lost my G, to add insult the G was totally write off & discontinued...the 2nd hand market for the item is almost non existent in my country. i hate to change the format i'm used to (the Roland Fantom workstation sequencer).
I wont be looking for a keyboard workstation anymore since it's bloody expensive, & i still cried my heart out for losing the G...hahaha!
hopefully this thing wont happen..touch wood!

At this point, knowing the situation with the ARX cards and all the incertitude about it's future, the decision would require some thinking.
A fully expanded Fantom X would be most likely better in terms of sounds. The G would remain only with the "PFX for each part" feature and many sequencer tracks, plus the convenient way to save data, the USB drive.
If I would certainly know (meaning officially, from Roland) that ARX is dead, then I would buy a Fantom X and cards for it (Supreme Dance, Platinum Trax, Studio SRX and Ultimate Keys).

Re: If your G was stolen or lost would you buy another one?
I'd a) buy another one but b) only a used one.
a)
As a live performer I'm for the most part very satisfied whit what the FG can do. Besides that, I invested an immense amount of time into creating my Live Sets in the way how I need them for my show. Buying another keyboard would simply mean that I have to do that job again. I also created some 50 multi samples which I need and use for my shows. Because there is no multisample file format, I can't export anything from my work and convert it to be used in another keyboard. Changing to another keyboard would mean that I have manually to create 50 multi samples again from the scratch, including every single key zone for hundreds of samples (about 600 right now).
b)
I would buy only a used one. I would make sure that Roland doesn't get my money again. I can't and won't support a company that is unable to create a proper sample file format, assuring that you can take your own work further and use it on a later model. To give a perspective here, if you use a kurzweil/korg/yamaha, whenever you buy a newer model, you simply load your samples that you created on an earlier model right into the new one. A matter of seconds.

No. I would collect money from the insurance, and use that to buy a mac with sequencer/sampling software, which are the only decent features of the Fantom G.

For the first time in about ten years I´m unemployed for the moment so because of lack of money...NO...
If I did have the money I´m not sure if I would buy the Fantom...For the same money that I spent when I bought the Fantom new in 2009 I can get a used Korg OASYS to day I think...The OASYS is pretty tempting....
Or maybe a KRONOS.....

Without a doubt, and thats not factoring in "The Devil you know" factor... a great machine easy to program, plenty of scope to come up with the sounds I need. I fact I would buy another G7 now as a backup if I had the cash !

Re: If your G was stolen or lost would you buy another one?
V-CeeOh, that's correct! This is why I bought the G8 - being so heavy, it's impossible for one person to steal it! :D
Just kidding, it was because of the piano keys :)

After testing the Kronos...YES!
The G = still amazing in design & build quality (G8), very intuitive GUI, that is in layout of buttons & display & software, great ARX-01 & 02, good drivers as audio-interface, nice piano ivory feel action, good job Roland!

if my G8 was stolen or burned in a fire or watever (it's insured 100% and i have backup files so im not too concerned) i would not buy another unit and just get a RD700NX and hook it up to my DAW+VST.
i posted in another thread but these hardware workstations are too limited and are a thing of the past.
