Rd 700 NX : Note Stealing Effect
Rd 700 NX : Note Stealing Effect
Hi guys this is Libero from Italy, very nice to be here,
some owners of this beautiful piano (Rd 700 Nx) are having a problem when playing articulate passages, about an horrible "cut off" effect and steal notes.
Is it just a polyphony matter or what else? Does anybody have the same problem?
Here you can see what talkin' about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNNGiJjPEI4
Hopefully this will help NX users.

Re: Rd 700 NX : Note Stealing Effect
i had a similar issue when playing over mp3's at a local store. almost like a latency problem (per my other post).
anyway, my FantomG does this (without mp3 playback) when i have key off-velocity set up in the sound. this is when you make the TVA Env release longer or shorter based on how quickly you release the keys (not to be confused with just the release or note-off rate). seems roland has not perfected this parameter too well because my fantom seems to get confused and cuts-off notes abrupty in random.
when i make piano patches (or any patch for that matter) i dont use this parameter and keep it at zero. this helps prevent this abrupt cut-off kind of sound. too bad on the RD i dont think you can set the actual sensitivity level of the velocity note-off. you can probably only change the key-off rate but not the velocity sensitivity of keyoff. if you can, set it to zero and see if that helps.

Hi Kenchan,
thanks you very much for reply. i hope roland will provvide to resolve these issues just because they do very good music machines and these kinds of problems aren't acceptable

I can create the same problem in my GX when using a piano sound from the K-RD700GX1 expansion board. Is it just a polyphony matter or what else? Does anybody have the same problem?
Using an internal piano sound instead lets not occur this effect.
It's not a problem of polyphony but of either the voice allocation pattern or simply processor speed.
I must confess that I'm not really amazed since Roland had this particular problem before in other devices like the D-70 that I played in the early 1990s.
I can minimize the voice stealing effect by using the voice reserve function that is located in the Edit - Part Parameter - menue in the GX.
Re: Rd 700 NX : Note Stealing Effect
So what solution do you think roland will take about ? Or maybe roland can't do anything about it?
Re: Rd 700 NX : Note Stealing Effect
yah, the only solution i can think of is they do a OS firmware update that free-up some of the processors after key-on or sustain state and remove the key-off velocity sensitivity.
ive never had this issue on my CP1 or VPiano for that matter.

Caution when Playing Back Audio Files
Playing back an MP3 file or changing the playback tempo of an audio file places a significant processing burden on the RD-700NX, and in some cases
may cause it to be unable to completely process all of the performance data from the keyboard.
If this occurs, you may be able to solve the problem by taking the following actions.
• Use WAV format data rather than MP3 format data
• Return the song tempo to its original setting (to 0%)

had to laugh at the arrogance of that comment about it not being able to process all the keyboard data when playing a backing file.
A $200 PC playing soft synths via midi can do better than this. From a major manufacturer I think this sort of attitude it ridiculous.
By the way I have a Yamaha s70xs (it was the 70 or a 700NX and I went withe the Yamaha, sorry) but it has similar issues and the same snotty attitude from Yamaha.
It's be nice if these manufacturers stepped up and admitted the flaws in their keyboards and actually fixed them, or at least made equipment that actually worked as advertised instead of laying the blame on the user like they seem fond of doing. I mean come on, asking too much of it. Gimme a break!

If you're talking about my post I'd like to point that it's not a comment. It's a quote from the manual. It's up to you to take this as an "attitude" from the manufacter or a clear notice for a limitation of the function.had to laugh at the arrogance of that comment...
Nice. You got it all sorted out.A $200 PC playing soft synths via midi can do better than this.
