Namm new products - nothing for the FG !
Re: Namm new products - nothing for the FG !
the kronos seems to be a great instrument. congratulations to korg on continuing workstation development ( even though it just a development of the oasys os ) i keeping my g until it falls apart as it can do everything i need and i know it inside out now. so warts and all i love it. however i recommend that art set up a kronos section as that is the way forward. rolands support for the g has been appalling and i will always try in the future to buy another brand. so people go and support buy the kronos. and f--- roland were it hurts. in the pocket.
Re: Namm new products - nothing for the FG !
Go for it Art... I think that would be awesome.. And even though I'm sure it will be way too expensive, I do like the Kronos a bit..

Re: Namm new products - nothing for the FG !

Say what the logo should say and I'm sure a few of us will start up paint

No no, that logo is just a joke
I hope nobody in Roland Japan HQ will have a heart attack though...

Re: Namm new products - nothing for the FG !

Re: Namm new products - nothing for the FG !
Art's Super Duper Multi Media Midi Gimme All Yerr Money Clan sounds about right!
Re: Namm new products - nothing for the FG !
Oh sh#t... that's perfect... If you change it, you ruin the whole thing and might as well go back to Fantomized.info!
Re: Namm new products - nothing for the FG !
No, I would only agree to leave the Gimme All Yerr Money part!
Re: Namm new products - nothing for the FG !
art just look after yourself. you put many many hours of your life into the clan. and what do roland give you ? 100 computer interfaces and 20 variations on a juno g. stick with apple korg or whoever tries to advance innovation and creativity.
Re: Namm new products - nothing for the FG !

Re: Namm new products - nothing for the FG !
I don’t think Roland has any plans for a new synthesizers a’la the Fantom or V-Synth in the future. If they do, they are well hidden down in the basement of the HQ. That department is a victim of the Softwaresynthesizer’s that swept over the musicworld 2002 up to today. Don’t misunderstand me. I am sad about it to. I started with JV-80 & 880 once upon a time and 1080, 2080 … (you get it). So I don’t like the way things look
Now many of you will say that the sound of the SoftSynth’s cannot compete with the sound of the Fantom. And I totally agree, but the problem is that we are too few.
If I was Exec of Roland when the Softsynth’s came I would probably done the same, but I have some suggestions to present later on.
Who could compete with those Softsyntesizers. Roland Fantom cost $3000, Softsynth under $300. And many, many simply for free (piracy).
I remember Roland tried with some softsynth’s of their own, the Sound Canvas in virtual form. But probably noticed that they didn’t get paid.
JV-1080, XP’s and the Fantom’s targeted at the studio (Hobby, SemiPro and Pro) as their main costumers and most of them have gone “Virtual Studio-Way” in their Computers. Not only Roland has noticed and have problem with it. Ask SSL, Neve, Lexicon etc, etc.
Some of them tried to recreate their products for the PC’s Virtual Studio World and succeeded and I thought that Roland were trying the same when they launched V-700system. But they seemed to have put those plans in the same basement as mention above. But don’t. That’s my suggestion.
Why not release something like Universal Audios UAD or TC- Electronic Core platform. But with Roland Synthesizer stuff. I can fully understand if they don’t go Virtual Softsynth total. Too easy to crack and copy all over the world. And I understand if they want to get paid for every unit they make and not every tenth. But with PCIe Card or USB/Firewire-box it will still be some kind of hardware that can’t be copied over the net.
And if they don’t think there is enough many money in it, please license to them (UA or TC) so they can create it, Roland already did it with Dimension-D, Chorus and Classic Band Echo.
Or in some other way that I haven’t figured out yet.
Some of us miss the Roland sound.

Re: Namm new products - nothing for the FG !
Roland will deliver Fantom G OS 2.0, no doubt.
The next Roland workstation will either be descended from Fantom G software, or running PC-based software. It doesn't make sense to start from scratch since that costs a fortune.
If they're planning to base the next workstation off of Fantom G, then the software is still under development and a 2.0 release is likely as an intermediary.
If they're planning their next workstation to run PC software, then I'd still expect a Fantom G 2.0 release as a stopgap since it's too soon for Roland to release a brand new workstation. (If development of Fantom G software is halted, it would be nice if the code was made open source -- not that that would ever happen!)
Also, Roland has the option to add new capabilities that cannot be done through software alone with an ARX release. Too bad Roland didn't open up ARX card development to third parties since they've released so few expansions.
Fantom G is not dead. In any event I'm generally happy with mine though (apparently unlike most posters to this forum). However, for the money I spent I my FG (actually, I've bought 2 of them now!), I'd definitely welcome a new software release - to say the least!
