Can I downgrade from 1.50 back to 1.31?

Post by kbrkr »

I suspect a memory compatibility issue with 1.50. Can I downgrade from 1.50 to 1.31?

Yes, you can upgrade/downgrade to any version, as the system installers are full, not incremental.

Thanks Artemiy.

I wondered if Artemiy has any view on the problem of memory upgrades and the issue around compatibility and version 1.50.

I'm a new user and the issue of dimms memory seems to be a key problem for users.
Any ideas, Artemiy?
Thanks

I don't understand why any one would want to down grade the OS.

Hey kbrkr, would do you mean that you suspect a memory compatibility issue. Most users have installed memory (ram) upgrades with out issues, I know I have it installed and I am running 1.5 with no issues.

If your problems are with a memory stick/thumb drive, I doubt that it is an OS issue and more of likely a bad stick, here again I am having no issue.

Hey kbrkr, can you be a little more descriptive about your issues, maybe I have problems and don't even know it, and/or I would not want you to be steered down the wrong track.

I purchased a brand new G6
I upgraded Op System to 1.50
I purchased a 512meg memory DIMM from OEMPCWorld
I Installed memory stick in G6
G6 displays Blue Screen saying - Check DIMM

OemPcWorld sends new 512meg memory stick
Install new memory stick in G6
G6 displays Blue Screen saying - Check DIMM

Ordered 1gig memory stick from OemPcWorld
Installed memory stick in G6
G6 Freezes when powered on.
kbrkr suspects maybe 1.50 is incompatible with memory chips
kbrkr cannot find 1.30 OS and thus cannot downgrade to test
kbrkr Calls Roland
Roland says to return G6 to Retailer who sold me the unit, memory sticks are not suspected as they are the standard they recommend.

Return G6 to retailer
Retailer orders new Unit
do NOT upgrade to 1.50
receive new and install 1gig memory DIMM
Power on NEW G6 and freezes on FANTOM Screen
UnInstall 1gig memory and reinstall 512 memory
Power on G6 and it WORKS!
Upgrade to 1.50
Power on G6 and it WORKS!
Notice when sampling the Jog Wheel works sporadically.
kbrkr suspects memory conflicting with operation of Jog wheel
kbrkr keeps G6 with jog wheel issue because; well I need the keyboard to play gigs.

This is why I considered downgrading the O/S.

I can't comment because my G was at a friend's place for a couple months and have OS 1.31 installed. I will have a look for 1.31 installer on my computer. But I will try 1.50 when I get back to my G.

I'm on a similar ride to kbkr

I purchased a brand new G6 in March
I upgraded Op System to 1.50
I purchased a 1Gig memory DIMM from OEMPCWorld
I Installed memory stick in G6
G6 freezes on logo
Downgraded to 1.31 to check 1.50 was not the issue. Still froze on logo.

Roland UK say the momory is probably not compatable (although the spec on my invoice is exactly right, unbuffered etc and from recommended OEMPCWorld page)
Roland UK are going to send me 512 Roland branded DIMM to try. I'll be sending them my 1Gig stick to test.

I'll keep you posted

I tried 3 different DIMMs and only 4th worked, so yes, this is a hardware compatibility issue and you should try another module.

I wasn't aware Roland had a branded memory stick. They told me the Samsung memory chips on the modules supplied by Oempcworld are top of the line and supported by Roland.

Can someone get me a part number to the Roland stick so I can try it.

kbrkr, I bought my 512 stick from the following.

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Memory/SDR/SD...

It is very cheap and has worked perfectly for me for 2 years.

Hi mates. I've just installed the 1.50 version with the FG Connects but when I check my OS in the Main Menu it says 1.31. What's wrong? Thanks in advance!

Sorry I should have said, rather than Roland branded, that it is memory that Roland UK have in stock. Still waiting for it to arrive.
