Piano Sound in Fantom?

actually the CP1's CF Grand piano (after extensive editing) can sound VERY good too. (just adding to the list of piano options). ive been playing the CP1 extensively the last month or so and it has been very enjoyable!

interesting kenchan. you have the best of the best as far as imitative piano technology is concerned. what do you think is the most realistic? darth price has nothing to do with it. its all about the quality of the software programming and the cpu power. the later gets more powerful and cheaper buy the month. i have had a jupiter 8 and the fantom g for synth sounds totally blows it away. what amazes me is that my gem rpx made by a now bust Italian company running a 50 megahertz risc chip can hold its own to pianoteq and v piano running cpus 40 times its power. thats amazing programming.

Personally I think the G's piano sounds are very good once you tweak the eq and some other parameters to your liking. And if you're still not pleased, it's easy enough to import samples from another instrument, although I never felt the need.

I've had great results with some tweaked stock FG pianos in live performances, of course I'd never record anything serious with it, but the same goes for any other sampled piano. I always record on a real grand.

johnc- as far as dynamics the vpiano is by far the most realistic. the way the virtual strings react to each touch is pretty amazing. you will basically never hear the same tone twice while you hit the same key which is impossible to do based on sampled piano's even if it had smooth transitions between velocity layers.

even though the supernatural piano's and CP1's seamless velocity switching sounds promising, it starts to sound pretty redundant after a while. vpiano on the other hand, you never get that feeling... downside of the vpiano is it only has basically one sound with many variations of the sound. if you dont like the sound, then you're pretty much out of luck. hahahaha. kinda like how you would choose your favorite real piano.

as far as the Fantom's piano's they sound okay, especially in a mix.
one of the key features missing is sympathetic string resonance. that is when strings next to the played key vibrates (excited) due to dampers lifting. without this feature they all sound like normal 'sampled' piano's.
same goes with the SRX11 and FantomX piano's. they dont sound very realistic when compared to digital piano's.

kenchan the v piano sounds pretty amazing very similar to a steinway model d grand piano. you are so lucky to have one.8) yee the g and the rest of the romplers are generally ok in a mix. but for playing the likes of a Beethoven piano sonata.......................................................................................

I've been spending time with CP1 lately. And while I've been enjoying it for the most part, it seems like the velocity response in the upper octaves is very aggressive and too loud ... I have to consciously not play hard at all when above c3-4 ...

BTW ... With that said, I have turned down the high and mid-high EQs quite a bit ... Still doesn't really alleviate the problem ...

Have you noticed this ... ??? Are there any useful velocity workarounds ... ???

johnc, going to bow out of this debate as I don't have access to the kit you talk about...but to me the Fantom X piano patches are just fine (for me). LOL

Diametro- i have not noticed this on my CP1. i use mainly the Soft1 hammer setting and played around with the master and pre-amp EQ's. it sounds pretty even on my setup. and i use the full range when i play piano.

try it through your headphones and if you are getting the same results it's your EQ setting. if you are not, then it's your studio monitor bias and need to tame things down probably.

darth if you are happy with what you have, thats all that matters. been happy with what you have and just making music is the perfect state of mind to be in. kenchan and i and the many others discussing this have spent many hours playing acoustic pianos and just have a distinct interest in it.
darth just as a side note i downloaded cakewalks z3tq+ soft synth last night and it is amazingly good!!!!!!!! and cost just £14.99 !!!!!!! if you have a laptop and even an old one will run it ( 1 gigahertz cpu or more ) buy it!!!!!
