Bad Luck with Memory Upgrades on the Fantom G6

Post by kbrkr »

I have been having all kinds of problems with upgrading my Fantom G6 memory.

I have been purchasing memory modules from OEMPCWorld.com. I've ordered the 512k DIMM, module and received the Check DIMM memory with a blue screen when I powered up the G.

I returned that module, they sent me a new module, and received the same result.

I returned that module, and upgraded to the 1gig module with all the specifications that Roland recommends, again from OEMPCWorld, and installed in my G and now it Freezes on the Boot screen (Fantom G).

What is going on? I have ordered from this firm since many of you have successfully upgraded their boards with this chipset.

Has anyone else experienced problems or SUCCESS for that matter???

Thanks
Al

If you know anyone else with a Fantom G I suggest you try installing it on their's and see if it works. Sounds to me like it might be a problem with your G...

Thanks Gil. it is a brand new G (week old), but you bring up a good point. I should try contacting Roland support to see if they have any suggestions.

Well the trials I've had with PC RAM in the past is shocking! I've ordered RAM in the past (mainly DIMM) only to find that the PC at the time just wouldn't boot! Turned out that some motherboards just had different tolarances to others...my main issue was always with unbranded RAM.

Since that time I always paid the extra few quid for Corsair or Crucial etc and avoided unbranded stuff. In my opinion RAM is a lottery!

I suggest you get a branded product like Corsair or somthing like that...or even ask Roland what they recommend as they would have bench tested with a particular brand.

Sorry that I'm not much help!

Roland recommends Kingston PC-133 512M or 1G DIMM modules, and If I'm not mistaken, they are available from Sinevibes as well, as kit for the G.

I called Roland support about my issue and they recommend purchasing the same DIMM modules I did from OEMPCWorld.

Unfortunately, they recommend returning my keyboard back to where I purchased it for a new one -OR- I can send it in for repair.

The memory chips on these DIMMS are Samsung, a very good manufacturer which I'm sure Corsair even uses.

Yeah that's a good brand!

did you buy it from a store? If so then I'd take the DIMM to the shop and ask for it to be fitted to the demo G6 to see if the issue re appears. If not then you have a faulty G6 and the store should issue you with a replacement!
