Havin some problem...
Hey, im new here, and i just have a question really quick. I recently got a Fantom G-8 and i got a USB Memory stick, so i wanted to put the songs from my Fantom to my computer using it, i had like 7 songs saved. i read everything about it in the manual but it didnt help me whatsoever i was still clueless, and so i dont even know what i did at first, i just hit save as project on all of the songs and i dont know just a bunch of random things, and i plugged it into my computer and tried to open some of th song files but my computer couldnt open the file types, then i realized i had to save as an SMF. i went back and lost all of my songs except for 1, which doesnt bother me too much i can always redo them, but i saved it as an SMF file and just to be sure i saved it under two different names, one with that save option 0 and the other with that save option 1. they went on my usb stick fine, i opened them up on my computer fine, but for some reason none of the instruments were there, every thing in the song was played on the piano...can someone please help me?

Oh and i also forgot to mention that i haev a Verbatim 4GB usb stick.
Re: Havin some problem...
Turn off Fantom, Take you flash drive put it into your computer and move the wav files to your computer. You may need to know the number where the fantom saved your file. Put it into your mymusic in your computer. Then you can burn it to cd. Good luck
Re: Havin some problem...
what a mess you got there uh?
The thing is, when you save the Song as SMF all information about sounds is forgetted. The Fantom only saves this in its original format. And this format is not recognized by any other thing but the Fantom itself (there is no way to convert this into other format). So you have 2 options:
1 - You insert (in Miicroscope Edit ) the Program and Bank Select messages to "call" the patches you use in the song.
2- You Re-Sample the entire song, getting a WAV file and moving this file to your PC.

I have to ask this question:
Where does it say that you have to turn off the Fantom while taking out the flash hard drive? It doesn't make sense to me at all. Actually I'm transferring a lot of samples to my Fantom, and if I would have to turn it off every time, I would longer wait to boot it up than to work with it. I'd like to hear a clarification about that. Did I missed something? As I know, no other keyboard requires you to turn it off just to pull out the flash memory stick.

There is a USB Storage mode and with this function you don't have to turn off Fantom just to put some samples in your IMPORT folder. You just need USB cable from your COMP to your Fantom.
I am using internal USB Memory 16GB and I can't just unplug it because it is installed in my Fantom. And off course I must go to the USB Storage mode every time or just put USB Stick in Memory and then Import samples from the Memory USB.
Never unplug USB Stick while your Fantom is ON.Always turn it off before you unplug it.You can insert it but never do unpluging becaouse your Fangsnd.svd file can be damaged.

Thanks branko for the idea of putting the Fantom G in usb storage mode. I simply did it the old way as I was used to do on my other keyboards by simply pulling the usb out of the keyboard for file transfer.
However, I would like to see some official statement because there is no mention in the manual about that. But maybe I simply missed it.

Hi Mojkarma!
The following was copied from page 24 of the pdf manual.
USB
USB MEMORY Slot
A USB memory (sold separately) can be inserted here.
* Never insert or remove a USB memory while this unit’s power is
on. Doing so may corrupt the unit’s data or the data on the USB
memory.
* Carefully insert the USB memory all the way in—until it is
firmly in place.
Cheers!

I know the Fantom S was like that too with it's cards, but I don't think that the Fantom X is like that. I know you will know this Piaknow... Are you able to swap Compact Flash cards while the Fantom X is on? I know you CAN, as I have done it many times, but is it something that could damage info?

Hi Wudsiba!
I switch cards while the Fantom X is ON all the time! It shouldn't be a problem, as long as the keyboard isn't loading data at the time.
Honestly, I have often switched USB keys on the 'G' without turning it off with no issues. However, I am often not using project files heavily laden with samples!

Fantom G6 usb song list file malfunction
I was recently editing a project earlier in the day, I came home to pick up my board and head to the studio. I saved the song; then proceeded to save the project as well. Arrived at the studio turned on the board and the most recently saved song was not on my song list. It had completely disappeared. I then placed the USB drive in my laptop and strangely the song appeared in the specific project initially saved in but would not appear on my song list on the Fantom itself. PLEASE help how do I recover my song....??????
