Roland Comparison ??? XV-racks vs Fantom XR vs Fantom G
Roland Comparison ??? XV-racks vs Fantom XR vs Fantom G
Does it make any sense to purchase one of the Roland XV modules OR the Fantom XR (rack) if you already own the Fantom G, MOTIF XS rack, Roland P-330/MKS-20 rack...?
Is there anything that one of those could bring to the table that I don't already have...
I'll explain why later. (maybe LOL).
OK YOU GOT ME I'M A GEAR SLUT. I've got a crazy opportunity in front of me, and I just want to see what you all think.

Re: Roland Comparison ??? XV-racks vs Fantom XR vs Fantom G
Hear the differences. Every sound module have some sounds that are his strong points. The only reason i would get an X over the others is the ability to store 6 SRX boards.
Re: Roland Comparison ??? XV-racks vs Fantom XR vs Fantom G
apex, the sound engine of the Fantom-G can do 100% of what the XV did, plus some more. You can get different presets and access to SRX boards, but the overall sound character will be too similar to make much sense, as to me.
I would recommend you to get the V-Synth XT instead. It's still a Roland but sounds absolutely different from the Fantoms and XVs, it's a magic machine, really.

isn't that v synth going to be quite a bit more expensive than any of those other items I mentioned...
what's so magic about it?

Re: Roland Comparison ??? XV-racks vs Fantom XR vs Fantom G
see ART... that techno/trance sounding stuff doesn't really fit well in my ears... (if you know what I mean... said as nice as I know how
remember I'm a church musician mainly. some other live stuff I guess from time too time, and some studio work too. but mainly church. (unless you are trying to help me create a new sound (altogether) for Gospel/Praise and worship music... then something like the V synth wouldn't be needed much in my set up.
This is the exact same person that has initialized all but about 30 of the first 250 performance (combo), live mode preset patches on the Yamaha Motif XS rack... just don't need all that crazy sounding stuff. Just great bread and butter!!!!

apex, I see!
Then have you looked at the Voices library for Fantom-G? Here is a demo:

Hey Apex!
Why not add some analog stuff to your rig ? You may want to balance the digital domain with some warmth and guts

Re: Roland Comparison ??? XV-racks vs Fantom XR vs Fantom G
what do you mean by "analog"?
Re: Roland Comparison ??? XV-racks vs Fantom XR vs Fantom G
like jupitor 8?
Re: Roland Comparison ??? XV-racks vs Fantom XR vs Fantom G
lol, he said "anal".
Re: Roland Comparison ??? XV-racks vs Fantom XR vs Fantom G
if the jupitor 8 is analog, then what would the Fantom G be?
Re: Roland Comparison ??? XV-racks vs Fantom XR vs Fantom G
The Fantom G would then be a digital synth. And a very digital sounding one, actually.
Re: Roland Comparison ??? XV-racks vs Fantom XR vs Fantom G
Rom, romp, romple, rompler.
Analog synths actually created their waveforms via analog circuitry.

is the sound different? better or worse? is it a taste thing?
