how to make my final recording sample louder.

hi guys can anyone tell me how i make my samples louder. when i put them on the pc and my ipod they are really quiet. can anyone help

Welcome to the world of mastering... There is no simple answer to this question, it depends on the quality of your mix.
With softwares like wavelab + mastering plugins (like Waves), you will be able to make your track sound louder. Search the Internet about mastering and you will understand why your track sounds weaker than the other tracks on your ipod.

I would not recommend you to dive into complex mastering plugins - without about a year of training, you can only make your music sound worse, especially if you use mastering presets.

My quick way of bringing the level up is get yourself a good sample editor software (like Audition on PC or Wave Editor on Mac) and do this:

1. Perform "remove DC offset" operation
2. Perform the "normalize" operation
3. It's good if you have a spectrum analyzer with a graphic EQ, you can see if you have excessive bass for example and turn it down
4. When done with the EQ, you can add a peak limiter with about -4..-6 dB peak reduction

These steps will let you gain 6 to 8 dB more loudness while not touching much dynamics.

Better yet, just turn up the volume and try to enjoy.

By just asking the question, it shows you aren't ready to tackle the solution. For now, it would be better if you could focus on getting it as good as you can using only what you've got.

Although I'm wondering, did you mean that your final "song" is quiet, or just a sample? If you're just sampling/resampling small parts, a combination of Normalize and PreEmphasis inside the Fantom should help. As for a song, they're right, it's all about the mix.

In short, your best bed would be to use some sort of signal processor (hardward or software) to amplify your sample. Of course I'm assuming you're referring to a song Resampled into your board and exported to your PC via USB.

the quick and dirty way to get the volume up, as indicated in the manual, after you do the resample to one file, is to then normalize it and save it again.

look at page 45 of the quick start manual
