Expression CC11 save in Performance?

Post by IHTWolf »

Hi,

I have some layer sounds (piano strings i.e.). When I switch to the performance, the strings are always set to its maximum expression, because I cant find a way to save the expression value. Always the volume cc7 can be saved. So everytime I switch to the sound I have to move the pedal for silencing the strings... thats really bad. My RD700 can save this value...
Setting the pedal in the global menu to "volume" is not a solution, to much other problems going along with that.
Has anybody found a solution for that?

Which volume pedal are you using? I have noticed that the EV-5, when used as a volume pedal, is ineffective immediately after the patch/performance is changed until the pedal is moved slightly. i.e. if I change sounds, the new sound comes in at full volume, until the pedal is moved slightly. Utterly useless for live gigging.
Roland have conceded that this is indeed the case and suggest using the FV500L pedal.

Hi commando,

thx a lot for response but I dont think, that this is a solution. Even if there is no pedal plugged into the juno the sound is set to its max expression when switching a performance, and there is no way to change this.
I search for a way to store the expression value. Not for a way to give roland more money by buying a new pedal. :)

HEY ROLAND GUYS! What's about an update to solve this??????

I don't have a JUNO but a Fantom G and X.

Although, I'm just wondering why you don't use the part levels to balance your instruments in first place in the performance.

And then use the pedal assigned to expression messages to change the overall volume of all used parts in your performance ? (indeed it starts from 127)...

When I need to solo a part I have another pedal triggering the sound to turn up the level -> but this is assigned in the patch edit CTRL1 -> tone levels.

Hope it makes sence.

Hi Jabberwocky,

I tried this, but it is not satisfying. I need the part levels for setting the maximum level. When I do like you described I have to take care like hell, for not being to loud.

mm, strange.
I do it like this on my Fantoms I don't have any issues.

I use the part levels / mixer screen to balance my parts (1-16).
and then my pedal EV-5 is used to sent expression messages to reduce volume in case of.

Sorry, can't help you further.

Uhm... I didnt understand yo post right. My english!

Reading it twice I see, that you describe exactly the way, I do in the JS. Using Part Levels for the overall Volume, and using the EV5 for the Expression CC11 to set its absolut volume.
The Problem is, that the JS seemingly does not save any CC11 into the performance. So the layered sound is alway set to CC11=127, when you switch to the performance.
I use a Piano/String Layer very often. And every time, when I switch to the sound I have to move the Pedal first completely down, to silence the strings. Stressy on stage.

Hi,
just thinking of this one.

Asume if it was possible , what would be velocity value you would like to save ?

If you want to gradually bring in the strings next to the piano, the EV pedal has to be down (0) anyway ?

??? Saving Velocity ??? How should this work?

Of course: if I want to "bring the strings in", I have to put the pedal down to zero anyway. But it is in the word: I want to bring them in! So they have to be silenced first!
In the most situations I have to have only a Piano Sound, and then I want to add strings.

The whole thing is not a mess. Its just not lucky solved, when you can't save the CC11.

Hi,
If you set the patch tone levels to 0 for the strings, and then in patch edit assign i.e; Controller 1 Source to expression -> and destination to tone levels (+63) . Anyhow, it works like this for the Fantom. Don't know if Juno Stage has these patch parameters.
