best contoller for fantom xr

i may get an xr and was wondering what contoller you guys can recommend.

XR is a good machine. Keep in mind, controller recommendations are going to be subjective. There are also considerations you might have such as budget, size, and keypad preference.

Best bet is probably to go test a few controllers at guitar center or keyboard shop and see what feels best to you.

what im looking at is an akai mpk61. but i have never used a midi controller so im not sure if this will give me all the controll i need.

For live I use a Edirol PCR-800.
For studio, something with 2 octaves, MK-125.
The important thing is the purpose of the Fantom-XR.
I am carring my fantom-xr in a 19" case because is very protected this way.
The most usefull thing at Edirol PCR is the dual/split function, actually it's very similar to my GW8.
The pads are not very confortable, but I use them as triggers for some samples mixed in a Drum kit
the can be asiggned as loop triggers with latch.
The editor needs a little "midi knoledge" but it can be useful.

Here is what I use:

M-Audio Oxygen 49: Has a lot of assignable pots, buttons and sliders so you can have them control different parameters of the XR. The keys are not weighted so it is more synth style than piano style and it does not have after touch.

M-Audio Keystation 61es: No assignable controls but you have semi-weighted keys with this one. Does not have after touch either.

I very satisfied with both of them and they are not expensive.

the keys have problems , are moving axial and lateral, and it feels so bad when you try to play.
They are rotating axial while you're tring to play.

cminor, your previous post was not really respectful. Laughing at another member's gear is not really nice. I'm not a pro keyboard player so this keyboard suits me fine. I don't have any problems with mine and I like it. Now if you don't like this controller it is your choice but don't laugh when other people own it. Maybe trashcomics is looking for something cheap to start with, we don't know. Let him be the judge of what suits his needs.
