< KRK > speakers

Post by z06lm »

Anybody using KRK speakers with their G . I am looking at getting a set of RP6 G2 , just don't know if there will be enough punch out of a 6" speaker .
Also for $500pr can you really do better ?

My studio is small , 8 ft x 12 ft so no overkill needed and putting an RP8 might be a little big on the desk ?

Whatchia guys think ?

I use KRK's as well. Sounds good for not much money. You can also try the Yamaha HS80. A 6 inch speaker is ok for me. I dont play that 'bass heavey' music.

What are you want to do with it? Just lhaving fun or making a good mix?

Most important is to trust your ears and try them yourself. Listen to them carefully and use cd's with tracks you know very well. Try to listen if you can hear the little details you know it's in there. And remember: Studio monitors are not for a good colourful sound. They are not hifi speakers, they are there to check if your mix is good. You need some time to learn to know your monitors well. Then you know what to add or cut in the mix.

I have the old KRK 5's connected to my Motif XS, in a garage/basement, and let me tell you--when I crank these things, they sound LOUD (no subwoofer). If you're in an 8' x 12' space, the smallest KRK's should be plenty big enough. I suppose if you want speakers that achieve the same effect that you see when a car drives by shaking itself to bits with the bass, then, yeah, I guess maybe you might want something a little more punchy. But for home studio mixing, ANY krk's will be perfectly fine.

If you're planning on going platinum with Beyonce, maybe splurge and get slightly better monitors. If not, go with the KRKs :)

I have the KRK V6 and the sounds quality is outstanding for a pair of powered speakers.

Personally I would be concerned over larger drive units than 6" for studio monitors/mixing .. While you will get better bass with larger drive units both the transparency and transient attack in the critical midrange suffers...

Remember that KRK have two series of speakers, the Rokit and the V series.. audition them both.. the difference is significant!..

I have both the V4 and V6 and if i was starting again I would go for a pair of V4 plus a subwoofer rather than the V6

Just an FYI - for anyone looking into speakers , I went with the RP8 , its exactly what I needed , nice bottom end , clear when pumped hard. No complants , it was between these and the HS80 , I just liked these a little better

z06lm- check out the isolators too for your new monitors. they will give you cleaner bass and mid-low power. :) more definition.

i use PrimaAcoustic Recoil Stabilizers for my HS80's and some cheepo Auralex MoPAD's for my HS50's. both work great.

Many years ago while listening to several moitors in a controlled room at Guitar Center, the KRK's impressed me the most of all monitors I tried. If I ever go really pro with my monitors, I will seriously consider buying a pair. In your face flat power is what I remember.

No offense, y'all, but for mixing at least ... you can do A LOT better than KRK ... (i.e. mixes translating better and giving an accurate representation of bass, for instance) ... For just monitoring purposes, they're OK ... But they seem to not have a lot of detail in the upper frequencies (where HS-80ms excel, among other things ... )

I think the HS-80ms are the best in the mid-priced area ... If you get smaller monitors you won't get as much bass ... But beware of HS-80ms in small room ... As they are rear-ported ... but there's lots of eq controls on back ...

For lower priced monitors ... I also recently purchased M-Audio BX8as which I'm enjoying quite a bit ... Nice to listen to and they seem fairly accurate ... Not really that far off the mark of the Yammis, which are accurate to the point of being harsh (like listening to crappy MP3s) ... BXs are a little softer, prettier but still somewhat nuetral (unlike Rokits which most say color the sound quite a bit ... )

Take this all with a grain of salt ... good luck ...

In the mean time I will enjoy my small, inexpensive M-Audio BX-5's. :-)
