((( . ))) NEED SOUND !!!!

Post by z06lm »

Guys , got a G8 in my basement running into some sweet headphones, which don't do squat when playing for someone else.

What you guys running? amps ? monitors ? looking for something that will be loud enough to keep me satisified without blowing the bank .

I looked at the VXT4's but not that much bass, so I don't know if I will need to add a sub or go a complete other route.

BTW - I only have the G8 no other keyboards

Thanks !!

I guess first question is, how big is the bank?

I'd recommend monitors, but they are no doubt most expensive. At the same time, they are most useful if you are producing and mixing your own stuff.

If you just play for entertainment and the random party, an amp could get you there at half the cost.

Then of course, if you are going to gig, a PA might be on the menu too.

So, the real question isn't what will work - anything will, but what else you might want to do with it. Yes, if your definition of 'satisfied' is mind-altering bass, you'll probably need a sub.

Ok, this is a difficult question and as dbijoux already said everything could work.

So, I personally use the MACKIE HR 824 MK2 then those gives me enough bass. These are active monitors so no need of AMP's, only cables from the Fantom to the monitors that's it.

Mackie MR8 won't break the bank. I'm using it and still using it. I love it. my input gain on these MR8 is !/2 to 3/4 and that's just enough for me. The FG volume level around 5-7. this work well for me.

im running the HS80M's for my music compositions (G8/G7) and the HS50M's on my vpiano. both sound good, and with acoustic EQ, it's plenty powerful for my music room. :)

and neither will break the bank.

I am running Alesis M1Active MKII's, which can be bought at Musiciansfriend.com for $299/ pair with a 10" Powered sub and the combo really helps to level out my music for play on any type of stereo system, be it an Ipod or a $10,000 Polk system(In my theater room). What sounds like too much bass on my monitors, is too much bass for any system. Your music has to sound great on a bass heavy system and also a little mono radio. Having a sub really helps you even it out for use on both of them and everything in between.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "blowing the bank", but I highly recommend Genelec 8030A. My studio is in a fairly small room and I don't need a subwoofer, despite the fact that I really like heavy drums and bass. They sound fantastic but they are a bit more expensive than the ones recommended to you by others so far.

Good luck!

I will recommend the Yamaha HS80M speakers in this thread too. Use search to find out why. :)

(BTW. I personally prefer them over the Genelec 8030/40/50)
