Fantom as midi controller and sound module simultaneously!

Hello all. My question is in regards to using the Fantom as both a midi controller and sound module. I want to be able to use Omnisphere as my main synth and the fantom as my workstation for bread and butter sounds. Is this possible during the same session? For example, midi track 1-fantom...midi track 2-omnisphere/with fantom as midi controller. Any help is appreciated.

Yes, this is possible. I do that in my Sonar 8 very often, but I guess you can do this fairly easily in pretty much any DAW app.
You just have to setup your midi tracks to respond to fantom-g as midi source in the midi input selection, and then you select the instrument of your choice for the output, Omnisphere, Fantom-G or any other VST or real hardware instrument.
So, you're gonna need to choose which way you're gonna connect your Fantom-G with your DAW. One way is connect it with USB (you'll need the Fantom-G USB driver to be installed in your computer). Then you'll be able to select the Fantom-G as MIDI input and output ports. If you have an audio interface with MIDI I/O and want to use this instead, you'll have to connect your Fantom-G with your interface via MIDI In and Out.

I use Studio mode for this. First select your Studio set, or make one from scratch. Arrange your Fantom-G patches inside the Studio set, and set all of them to not respond to the Fantom-G's keyboard directly, so untick any keyboard switches for internal parts.
Then go to the external mixer, select the MIDI channel of your choice and then go to your DAW and choose which track you want to play along the keys, or record.

I do this with the Fantom-G8, Logic, and Omnisphere (and lots of other softsynths). Works great.

Exactly! That's the setup I'll run. With the addition of maybe Battery 3, Kontakt 3, and some other NI products. How exactly do you have it setup if you don't mind me asking?

May I assume you're using the Fantom-G as an audio interface as well?

I've found that it works great as both. As a controller it's not as easy as a D-70 or even an A-90. But once I get past the GEEKness I wouldn't trade it for anything. And it helps that the roms are top notch. Best samples this side of Dodge.

I just got my fantom G6 and working on a midi handshake using the fantom as a module and my mpc 2500. I've hooked up midi in/out already and set the mpcs midi. What do I have to select in the fantom to make this work right and in what mode.

JD Walker: Menu > System is where you find MTC sync etc for syncin up the FG with the MPC.

For use as a sound module you would simply put the FG into Studio Mode and then create own User Studio Set with different patches on channels 1-16 and record/playback those from the MPC MIDI tracks.
