MOTIF ES soundset

Post by szurcio »

I can get a Motif ES rack pretty cheap. I would have to sell all of my SRX expansion cards to buy it though (so I would be left with a bare Fantom S - no expansions). Can somebody with both a Fantom and a Motif say how their soundsets compare? (e.g. how do orchestral, choral, and ethnic patches sound in a Motif ES). ES has been replaced with XS so I can no longer check it myself in a music store. Is a Fantom S + SRX06 much better than a Motif ES for orchestral music?

For orchestral purpose stay with Fantom+SRX6.

They compliment ieach other nicely, but they are very different machines though. I would say stay with srx6 too. I dont even have expansions in my X7 but they are just generally better than the ES.

This may be a stupid question: the sequencer on my Fantom keyboard can't be used to sequence sounds from external gear (like a Motif rack), can it?

If you plan to use more than 16 tracks then the answer is no. If you want to replace some internal tracks with external ones then yes.
