people sure do whine alot on this site.

Check this out......try and sequence a live set on the Motif XS, it takes weeks to understand how and just when you've started getting it, you are out of memory, only 120,000 notes, M3 has 250,000, but the G has 1,000,000.

I bought the G7 to use as a primary sequencer, and compared to my XS & M3, I find the G easy to learn, without the manual.

Oh specking of manuals the XS manual is missing many features, you have to go out and search forums to figure out the undocumented feature. (and every topic thread is spread out over multiple pages, lots of jumping back and forth.) (XS only saves type 0 SMF's, I have to break smf's out by channel number to make them multi-track in the G)

The M3 manual is better, but then again you've got to printout the additional 600 page parameter guide to solve more complex problems.

The G manual is about as thick as the XS, yet covers all the feature I am interested in. in a concise fashion.

I believe Roland will continue to develop the G for a few more years in order to squeeze all the profits they can from it. It seems to me that OS on hardware tend to get up graded as sale start to back off, to re-ignite excitement and sales. I'd expect 1.30 in a few months then 2.0 by next year.

The only feature I miss on the G compared to others is pattern sequencing, but then again with 1,000,000 notes why not just sequence the whole song.

I love my G, I love my XS, I love my M3. If only my wife would let me get the V-synth GT 2.0 I'd love it too and stack it on top on my V-synth 2.0 which I love. As a matter of fact, the keyboard I don't love is the Roland JP8000, I only like it. The few keyboards I've lost in my life have broken my heart, so I guess I love them too. I've had to ask my friends to return the Fantom X I gave them, turns out I love it too and I never sequenced any songs on it, only used it as a piano sound.

Great perspective there Atlas5. Thanks!

Once I get a few missing sounds multisampled (thanks to Dan), I will be quite thrilled with the G again, although I have been mostly happy with it and not very tempted to buy the competition, even the though the low price on the M3 is quite tempting.

If I could afford all three, I might, but would probably first get a B3 clone, followed by maybe the V-Synth GT or Alesis Andromeda?

jessej - I've been using the Barbetta amps for a number of years. They're only 35 pounds a piece. That's the one thing that more or less has yet to solve the weight issue - amps. Personally I would never consider an amp as heavy as the new Roland, no matter how good it sounds. I could never move it!

For my taste this kind of heavy amp is quite outdated in the age of a pair of leight-weighted active Mackies SRM 450-II just sounding first class and covering the whole frequency spectrum in an excellent way. But anyone as he/she likes.

To me it is rather fun that finally a keytar axe for live play is back again...

1249usd for the AX-synth keytar! It does have supernatural built-in.. I wonder if it comes in all kinds of different colours... Not that I am at all interested in getting one. :)

I think Roland should release a AX light model without the built in synth engine, with wireless MIDI.

New Cubase 5 has awesome features (64-bit!), but we know how steinberg uses their customers as betatesters, so the debugged version will be out by 2011. by a few years.

Stylus RMX 1.7 has some nice additions too, 64-bit!

I wonder what Apple Logic has up it's sleeve...

I think the new 2.0 update its coming in 2012 with the comet that is going to destroy the earth. Imagine that, every G user is very super xtremely happy with the new OS announcement, everybody downloads it into their 128GB usb drives, then we plug it in the G, then the blue screen, and BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!! no more g.... users....... namm.... Dan.. NO MAN THIS IS AWFUL!!!!

Tim:
With all due respect, remember Artemiy is now more or less a Roland rep
Absolutely not true. I have worked with Roland Japan in certain areas (sound design mostly, and a bit of demos/writing last year) but I have NO IDEA whether I'll ever be asked to do something for them. Which is kind of heart-breaking at times, given that I am *in love* with their staff which are simply brilliant people, they are like my family...
he's not going to bad mouth the situation in any way.
Somewhat true indeed, but that is due to how much respect, patience and understanding I have for them.

Like any other rather big company, Roland has management and engineers, and these sometimes may speak different languages and want different things. And they are also humans so they can make mistakes. I dislike some of what they do, which is normal, but in general they have some of the most amazing stuff you can buy on the MI market.
That being said, let me also soften this statement by again mentioning what a fantastic resource he's created, maintained, and updated here over the years since its inception in 2003. This includes the patch sets which he sells, and which from the beginning I encouraged him to not give away, but to sell. Thanks for everything here, Art!
Thank you so much, Tim ;-) I made this place for people, for Roland users, to get together in a very friendly atmosphere. I know Roland Clan is now very important to Roland, but I tend to not let myself think about it too much.

I'll take some photos and some video today at the show just for you guys. (I saw that post about Artemiy being accused of being a Roland rep. Wow.)

NAMM is just the first of many tradeshows of the new year. There's Musik Messe and many others when we sneak out new stuff.

Someone on another thread asked why I'm posting updates from the show. Well, because I want to and because I think you'd find it interesting. Especially those of you in Europe (Finland!) and other parts of the world.

I'll make sure we give an extra shot out to Jessej from the show floor today! And to Artemiy. And to all of Fantomized...

I think if you pay $2500 for an instrument that ships with only a partially completed OS, you pretty much earn the right to do a little bit of complaining :)

this is a simple solution

use the G like the tool it is right now or grow a pair take it back to the store...

Roland (like any other company) won't listen to anything other $$$ so take it back and tell Roland why... dont whine on 3 or 4 different threads when another company does something... if you feel like Roland wants to treat their customers so poorly, DONT BE A CUSTOMER!!! whining is for little 4 yr old girls who get their doll taken away...

I don't personally care whether you like the G or not just don't continue to whine about it... over and over and over and over...

same as the other way round: it is totally irrelevant to me if you or people like you want critisism or not.

And frankly: I regard those as the most childishly whining perople who don't have the standing to read justified critisism, but still read it and complain.

Make your own little "always happy Roland user thread no matter what" and stay away from threads you can't read without getting a crisis.

And I don't care what you think 'chicks'. **You** are whining now like a little girl. If you don't like the forum, interaction with people and some healthy criticism, close your browser. Where I come from we have a word for people like you: "Sheep".

My FG stays - more to come and I am happy with it. if this 71% complete....no brainer its still darn good. I wouldn't get a 95% keys and not as good as the G so I am very happy with my G, if your not than sorry you feel that way- get something that fits your need. Its only January and many shows or months ahead....stay cool and loose....:)
